What is everyone using for encrypted SMS these days?

With Silence not being supported anymore (with compatibility issues) and Deku being sort of new. Is there anything else people are using?

this train has long gone

get your frens and family on a decentralized federated messaging app with e2e

the rest won’t run an encrypted sms app anyway

Can u suggest some good options?

You mean XMPP (Conversations or Quicksy or forks) and Matrix (Element X, Fluffy etc)?

The developer of Quik SMS has it on the roadmap, but is lower in priority than other feature requests.

A normal sms does not use the internet and is sent using the operator. How can an app make it encrypted?

encrypts the text that is sent via the operator, of course

That would mean that the receipt should also have the quick sms app installed, right?

as expected

hence me pushing towards an encrypted federated decentralized FOSS app instead

To make it easier, yes.

One could always encrypt with another app and send over SMS. Oversec could do this for any SMS app easily using accessibility services.

Thanks for this!

You know what would be cool is a tor messaging app, that uses a tor service as your identity that way you don’t have any phsyical identity (like a number). Does something like this exist?

you mean like an .onion XMPP server? this can be done, and use Conversations

well, you’ll have an identity there, so users can contact you

else try Briar | F-Droid - Free and Open Source Android App Repository

Well actually I was thinking that instead of it using a centralised server, each user could have their own tor onion service to receive their messages on

click the link…

Sorry for not clicking the link, Briar looks really interesting

Can you please enlighten me what type of info you exchange that you require to be encrypted?

private, personal, confidential, medical, professional, anything, everything

Do you assume that system hasn’t already know that?
