These hidden political agendas are extremely annoying. F-Droid should be agnostic and not backing any agendas outside of privacy and FOSS.
Though I personally would passionately defend the right to free speech, arguably even free speech advocacy should be outside the remit of F-Droid. Any trans/sexuality/DEI is simply off the reservation.
It would be a pity if conservative/mainstream FOSS developers had to create our own repository to reflect our values. Generally the hijacking of FOSS by the blue-hair, genitals-in-your-face crowd is really getting in my craw now. We will have to choose very carefully what projects to support with either code or financially from here on in.
We used to be one community of people who believed in FOSS and the right to control one’s own software. To fracture us with political sharding has been quite a successful policy.
I don’t know if abandoning ship is the right call. Doesn’t the outcry over the maintainers current reddit moment prove that the vast majority of people on here do not agree with their agenda? We should rather make sure to hold them responsible - this is a publicly funded project about privacy and open source. A strict “no politics” guideline might be helpful and keep this project, that I generally really appreciate, focused on their purpose: Free and Open Source Software
how about just not having a flag in the background and staying away from non FOSS related politics?
I don’t care what the maintainers do by themselves but it shouldn’t bleed into F-Droid.
It seems they are catering to a certain ideology instead of staying neutral, as you would expect from a project like this
I mean, it was a blatant attack on the bible, the initial MR that started this did nothing but mark all bible apps as NSFW. And I don’t think it is cancel culture to say you won’t be using an appstore that attacks your believes…
”Promotes ■■■■ and violence contents” - marking the bible as what it clearly opposes and hiding it from users is quite offensive, don’t you think? And as many have pointed out, if you wanted to mark the bible NSFW because it meantions violence you would have to mark any news app, wiki reader and social media NSFW, which noone sound of mind would ask for, of course.

I have seen linsui address it but I found his reasoning about general apps very weak - you can skip over passages you don’t like just as easy as you can avoid reading offensive posts on social media.
And I don’t think I am flaming, I have given my thoughts on the issue and made a suggestion on how F-Droid should handle politics in general.

Human rights aren’t politics. Standing up for them is not a political stance, but a moral one.
On-topic of this thread though: I am glad the NSFW-flag is being reviewed and has been reverted for the time being. Applying this flag to bible apps was ridiculous, in my atheist opinion. Admitting this was a mistake would show the strength of the way F-Droid’s volunteer orginisation can self-correct. Admitting mistakes and correcting them is never a weakness.
Didn’t you post AI slop nonsense to also get Quran apps banned in the same merge request? (Not to forget @linsui@Licaon_Kter folded pretty quick here and joined the bandwagon). Now you decide to attack the project because of the LGBTQ flag on a social media account that you have never seen? How does it affect you?
The core product has nothing of that sort. Is your plan to police the entirety of F-DROID along ConservativeChristian values exclusively?
how is anyone demanding conservative, christian values? F-Droids twitter is about the software catalogue we contribute to, correct? Instead of representing values one way or another, it should focus on privacy and FOSS - what this project stands for

Yes. hey F-Droid, mark this Beat Feet as NSFW because it has Pride flag in it’s logo. I don’t care if such flags are meant to be use as Rainbow/artistic color or whatever. If we see it as “trans/sexual” thing then we’ll bully you until you obey our view.

If i may provide a ‘family’ analogy (please humor me):
We (the OSS family) were enjoying a Christmas (umm i mean holiday) gathering. Everything was going great and we were enjoying the food and family company (despite the differences in opinions), but then all of a sudden that one relative had to bring up politics by labeling my brother’s beliefs as ‘promoting pornography’. Then the family gathering became not so enjoyable, and the family gathering is over.
The question is, whether the next family gathering will be the same… And that’s what we are all waiting to find out from the F-Droid family patriarchs.
