I don’t understand why, but NewPipe 0.28.7 is acting really strange: I set the resolution to 720p, but every YouTube video I watch is 360p instead, is this a YouTube API change or something?
On a side-note: GrayJay runs perfectly fine, it goes well past 1080p on YouTube videos, which is far superior to NewPipe. Sad that GrayJay isn’t on NeoStore…It would’ve been updated through Shizuku more easily with NeoStore. But I either have to strike it lucky on Obtainium, or use ZapStore for the little time it has left…
Oh shoot! I didn’t realize that FUTO had a repository!
Solved that part, but, with Tubular being dead, shouldn’t NewPipe consider adding SponsorBlock, ReturnYouTubeDislike & increase playback speed to 8X to try and stay relevant because of GrayJay?
Age Restriction eliminated! I think NewPipe could try this technique to make ID Age Verification meaningless somehow. I didn’t think a Non-FOSS service could actually help FOSS services…If we could somehow show NewPipe’s developers how to circumvent that Age Verification restriction. Heck, we could theoretically bypass the Bot detection as well if we implement it correctly.
Sorry, but GitHub’s Captchas are annoying as balls, I’m NOT doing 10 Captchas in a row for just one issue. Plus with GitHub collapsing, I have decided to use Codeberg instead.
I noticed, but still, Nevercap has a way around YouTube’s Age Verification problem (Since YouTube itself DEMANDS an ID and/or Face Scan to go through it), if NewPipe considers it, then YouTube loses that avenue of data collection, and we could theoretically bypass YouTube Memberships too (Since it’s nothing more but a money pit because Google makes a lot of money from it, and pay-walling content is never a good idea, because some people will never open it up).
Ok, what is “this technique”? Do they have source code available? From a cursory look this looks like proprietary SaaSS which means we don’t know how it works and can’t use “this technique” in our own programs.
If I had to guess though, because you can’t just magically "make the age verification go away” they probably have their own account(s) that they are feeding the request through. Maybe something like Aurora store’s “anonymous accounts.” Maybe even the tokens from Aurora store’s token dispenser can be reused for this, although I can’t say for certain.
Unless you are simply suggesting NewPipe should feed requests through this proprietary SaaSS site instead, which is a very bad idea imo. Adding a dependency on some mystery third party blackbox proprietary app brings much more trouble than its worth, because (privacy reasons aside) we can’t guarantee what that site will do and how long that site will stay up.
It’s hard to say, but if Nevercap does it, then it’s more than possible for NewPipe to somehow get something like that to work. It would be a huge step up for Privacy, and a huge L for Google, and it would open the floodgates open for Membership bypassing, which further increases Privacy, though at the cost of creators losing money.
Nobody wants to reveal their IDs, nor do they want to feed the monetarily hungry Google pig.
