New F Droid Driver, lost and need directions

Sorry Licaon,
But as you might know, work is starting to pick up a little more for some cities and states and I’m on a 8/5 again.
I just keep losing time everyday to get to this; sorry.

But I picked up from your last reply, and I’m lost, again.

I try typing in what you said, below:

E6910:/ $ -v
/system/bin/sh: -v: not found
127|E6910:/ $ logcat -v threadtime

BUT if I hit the enter button after that last sentence, I might as well kiss that CP screen goodbye, because it just starts doing all this Matrix stuff and I can’t turn it off.
I end up having to X out the screen and start over.

Also I still have the Logcat app frozen in the screen shot from above.

Sooo, I guess I’m doing it wrong again.

Please type everything

logcat -v threadtime|grep fdroid

That matrix stuff actually is what we are interested in  The last part that you did not type (...|grep fdroid) filters the output, so that it should only contain relevant information.

Pressing Ctrl+C on your keyboard also aborts the command without having to close the window.

AHHH, I see; said the blind man.

Also, that Ctrl+C did help.

Ok Licaon, I did it, but again, I must of done something wrong because nothing THERE happened, see below:

I hit Enter after that last sentence and nothing happened

B U T
It doesn’t matter anymore, I think, because I finally FIGURED IT OUT!

Right after you said to go back to fdroid after typing in that last command, that I failed at; I went to the F Droid “Settings” screen one more time for shits an giggles(didn’t know what to do there), and so just like any accredited 4 year degree Professional knob-turner, I just started pushing buttons.
So Lo and behold, after moving all the buttons below circled in red to the green position, the F Droid on my phone now WORKS!:

I was able to download a handful of apps already and so far I am liking it, especially the NO GOOGLE part.

I still am trying to figure out what’s the deal with that frozen Logcat app, but that’s for another talk.

It’s a shame that after 5 more weeks this thread will be gone because I was really hoping some poor mut, like me, could of read all this and probably learned what to and not to do when starting off on F Droid.
sigh

What do you mean with that? The thread is closed automatically some weeks after the last reply (meaning that nobody can post) but it can still be read.

I read the message below:

This topic will close 2 months after the last reply.

And thought that it meant something different.
Great of you to clear that up.

Just a suggestion, as you are new to F-droid and working without Google on purpose, I do have a blog where I have several articles devoted to using F-droid and non Google alternatives, just if you are interested.

I also have articles about setting up a home server to replace Google for things like automatic photo storage and sharing, location tracking, etc… If you ever want to jump completely off the deep end.
