adding QR Codes is a great idea. please use the “hide details” HTML element, so that the images only load when expanded. Like this:

so I guess it’s about having the idea that F-Droid recommends that 3rd party list that’s out of our control

You wrote by yourself “I’d rather not link to some external list”. Why do you guess only then what the reason is for your own statement?
And since this is a wiki almost everyone can edit – why is this under the control of F-Droid? Because the moderators in this forum have the power to edit the list?

Because moderators should moderate stuff. Just because it’s a Wiki does not mean anything goes.
What can i do now besides guessing based on your info?

In addition, the F-Droid repo of Shift will include a new app (Shift-Actions) for the Shiftphone 8 in the future. So it will soon no longer contain only outdated apps.
