Google will require developer verification to install Android apps, including sideloading

That’s going to be a disaster…We need to get a fully unlocked Pixel Studio, Sketchbook & IbisPaint X application suite onto F-Droid’s Repo somehow, that way Google’s Developer Verification won’t affect those as much. Plus don’t forget AZ Screen Recorder is still the best Screen Recording application known, nothing from FOSS comes close to its suite. Video Compressors are also a huge point of concern because I have to use MP4Fix & Video Converter to fix and shrink videos, and Video Editor would allow me to make more sophisticated videos. QuickEdit+ is also in danger, I even have PixAI.Art, which also could be in trouble. Periodic Table Pro 2025, MandelBrowser, Mahjongg Builder, Logic Circuit Simulator Pro, KingDraw Chemical Structure Editor, Maestro, Image Converter, FV File Explorer, Classic Card Games, Algorhyme, 250+ Solitaire Games, Baba Is You, 7 Billion Humans, Little Inferno, Human Resource Machine, CalcES, Graphing Calculator, HiPER Calculator, Holy Bible, Musicolet, TowerDefenseMaker, Webgenie SWF Player, Algorithms, SolitaireCollection, EveryCircuit, Mathematics, Math Solver, ROM Patcher (Though, that one is ancient) & probably a good few others…

That’s devastating to my creativity!

Also, I got wind that Google is modifying Permissions, which will break many older applications…Why does Google do all this stupid & unnecessary stuff for Android!? They should leave it as-is!

Share that wind here.

Err deleted that post. Nothing new and that video is taking 5 minutes to tell 5 simple things. Chrome, location, browser settings and blah-blah.

  • request: any video links, please give alternative frontend links. YouTube is messy, bloated, cluttered, heavy, sucks and I can go on.

Well, that really was the only thing I could think of…Plus, YouTube is like, 80% of the video sharing industry!

Just get a phone that can run GrapheneOS or any other Libre Android Distribution and use this

GrapheneOS needs pixel devices. Which means giving money to The Empire. No.

for now

when Motorola is ready… you’ll find some other excuse… I guess

I’m really surprised that in a thread as big as this one on a topic introducing such a dramatic change, there’s hardly any mention of Fairphone (5 posts?) and absolutely nothing about /e/OS.

I had the misfortune of having just bought a new Android phone when it became clear that creepy Google was serious this time. Everyone who is a little tech-savvy can see right through the smoke screen for Google’s real intentions. But a Murena Fairphone with /e/OS seemed like a way out to me. I used to install Cyanogen on my old smartphones whenever possible, but most of the time it couldn’t really be a full-fledged replacement.

That’s why I decided to try the /e/OS Murena Fairphone 6 version, and I didn’t expect to be able to switch over completely, but to my surprise, I’ve now fully migrated. The /e/OS device became my daily driver.

There’s one issue I’m still running into: Android Auto. /e/OS does support it now, but then you have to install the Google App, Google Maps, and Google Speech—and that defeats the whole purpose, of course. The devs are however stating that they are on it. Fingers crossed. Anyway, my other newish Google Android phone (Moto Edge 60 Pro) can now serve as an expensive car nav.

There is just this one really strange thing: I’m a developer, always in tech environments, but literally nobody is dealing with this. It’s really an “Is anybody out there? (echo)” experience. Very strange. Maybe I’m missing something :-).

how do you envision “dealing” here?

Always ran as much as possible on open software through f-droid and other sources, nextcloud for cloud storage etc. For me, ‘dealing with it’ is exploring options in the hopes to keep this possible in the future. In theory /e/OS looks such an easy switch and I was surprised by the stability, compatibility and clever workarounds that seem to make it a valid alternative.

If I could afford it, Fairphone. Yeah sure. But that Jolla phone seems really cool. Since I am in North America, my options are limited as I need to ensure carrier compatibility. The Librem is also an option. Save my pennies for the day…

Yeah, but if that’s not possible, at least Obtainium exists, I had a pre-built loadout, though considering I can’t tell if I can upload JSON files, it might be a moog point.
