On their Guthub releases they have switched to alpha release only and I cannot see any older releases there too. There is no issues option to raise on Github other than via Phabricator (external system).
We found nonfree libs used in these versions so we removed them. Next version will be available again.
Ohh. I do use it as I have Wiki accounts myself.
Thank you for the information.
This begs the question: are there now two official versions of Wikipedia, one with the non-libre components and one without them on F-droid?
Or were the non-free libraries the doing of some rogue developer?
no, why do you think that?
no, why do you think that?
the original devs added a non-FOSS lib, they missed it, they didn’t care to check, we don’t know why
Sorry, I worded my question oddly, my question implied that both versions are in F-droid, that is not what I meant. I intended to ask if the Play store version has non-free components since Aurora implies it has a GSF dependency and if the F-droid version is different in that regard.
Because of the recent XZ utils backdoor incident CVE-2024-3094 I found it a little odd that all recent stable releases were gone with the wind without notice, not even a mention in the Github readme.md. I signed up to Phabricator before linsui’s response. I couldn’t find pertinent information there either even after a lengthy browsing of past issues.
Aurora implies you get the app from the developer, via Google, what they have inside it’s up to them
what’s the connection between the app and xzutils exactly? link?
You asked me why I would think a rogue developer did something to the Wikipedia app’s source code. The xzutils incident is a precedent for a malicious actor tampering with open source software, nothing more.
I see but, please don’t add random CVEs as if they are related. There are not.
There was no mention of any rogue anything.
I guess this was just something lost in translation from linsui’s answer
waiting for a release then
