What types of apps are you missing from the FOSS ecosystem?

I have 2 more suggestions:

  1. a battery checker app like accubattery which provides info on battery wear, charge/discharge etc

  2. a app hider app like calculatorvault which hides the app from the app list and hides it behind another fake app (like a calculator)

You could look at RevengeOS, aosp-based Android 11 versions, advertises:
"RevengeOS exclusive features:

  • Battery health checker"

I am in the same boat. Phone has no GApps, only FOSS apps but still need a way to sync contacts and calendar with O365 for work. Using FairEmail as my email client but haven’t been able to find out how to get contacts or calendar to sync as MS does not support CalDav or CardDav.

Anyone have any possible solutions?

@francescosoave

a battery checker app

BatteryBot Pro in F-Droid does this.

@billybobfrank

sync contacts and calendar with O365 for work

Most orgs have disabled many of the standard protocols (*dav) over the years after push from Microsoft to do so for security reasons.

@JohnFai

I don’t recommend using your own repository

Decentralization is nice to have, it shouldn’t be avoided if we have it.

@benutzer74

have you found a decent TTS system already

You can compile PicoTTS into your ROM, however it has a very robotic sound and only supports a handful of languages.
I have patches here (8, 9, 10) to get the AOSP version compiling, they sadly cannot be published as a fork of PicoTTS due to legal issues in the past.

Google Camera type of Camera with all the AI beauty

Will never happen, there are insane patents/copyright around camera tech.
I’ve seen phones ship with over 800 proprietary libraries just for the camera filters.

Banking Apps including NFC

Also will never happen. However there is an app that lets you use VISA MSD tap-to-pay, but MSD has been effectively killed. GitHub - dimalinux/SwipeYours: Android app allowing users to use their own Visa Magstripe data to perform NFC payments in North America You also need a USB magnetic stripe reader to import your card.

@marianov1
There is a web based Spotify client on Izzy’s repo, it is called Pasta for Spotify.
You can use Open Note Scanner inplace of CamScanner, you need to install the OpenCV library app first.

@Spielmops
The Kodi client can do DLNA, and I think VLC does too.

I need an app which notifies me using ringtones when phone is charged up to 90% (or whatever). F-droid is missing this app.

I cannot find an application for BASIC reports of citizen science, open to be used for low budget projects:
Simply: take a geotagged picture, add text, store in a directory selectable with a scroll window, then nightly transfer to a FTP or cloud storage Linked to that project Is there any?

I have Kodi on my tablet and on my set-top-box of my tv installed. On both installations UPNP ist switched on, I can see the item “look for external player” switched to on at my tablet. But might as I try: I am not able to stream anything from my tablet to my tv. With BubblePNP it worked …

And: I wish for an app, that does nothing else, than stream my mobile multimedia files to an external device. Nothing else …

I am looking for an app that can generate a text list of all the DVDs I have.

A file (contents!) compare tool, something like:

user.js viewer/comparer/tool (userjs-tool.html) ¡ Issue #608 ¡ arkenfox/user.js ¡ GitHub

Although something like this isn’t easy to find even on PC. Notepad++ has it. :slight_smile:

One big thing that I can’t find is a opensource video editing app which has features like kdenlive or shotcut . When android users also get this types of editing app for Android :pleading_face: ?

Video editing is a hard problem :frowning:

But it is a necessary thing that should be for android. Because android is also opensource. And sadly there is no open source video editing application for android.
Other applications which are good to start but they have subscription, watermark or performance issues or other reasons .

We don’t even have good picture editor in F-Droid.

Hi,

I would wish for an app, that switches off mobile data after a user specified DAILY limit is reached (e. g. limit of 50mb).

It seems that there was an app for that use case (from google) called datally, but sadly google brought it to the graveyard.

If you’re wondering why I’m asking for such an app -
Well, the reason behind it is pretty simple:
It will help some people to better manage their data plans, so that it’ll last the whole month and isn’t spend on a single or two days, only by watching some videos or listening to webradio.

@start
I have a list of tweaks for saving data that specifically applies to apps available from F-Droid here:
https://divestos.org/index.php?page=saving_data

What’s about Battery Charge Limit | F-Droid - Free and Open Source Android App Repository ? You can activate a notice, but the app will stop the charging and keep the charging in a selectable range, e.g. 94%-97%.

I read that.

BatteryBot pro doesn’t give any alarm sound notifications at (for eg.) 90%

That’s not what I needed. I know its useful. But I want an alarm app. Too much charging heats up my device
