What is that domain/ip that the apps contact?

I’m trying to find a notepad app, with syncing (it’s own syncing) but on f-droid so far, found notesnook, and standard notes. Both contact some ip which shows it as infected. I’m not sure. it’s in relations tab.

Moreover, I found simplenotes, which isn’t in f-droid for some reason. I’m not sure. But also something is detected on virustotal.com

Lastly, why isn’t Magic Earth in f-droid? does it use GMS services?

VirusTotal

generic uninformative “bootgr”, false positive

VirusTotal

connects to their own servers, yes, see NonFreeNet flag metadata/com.streetwriters.notesnook.yml · master · F-Droid / Data · GitLab

VirusTotal

Standard notes too, see metadata/com.standardnotes.yml · master · F-Droid / Data · GitLab

if you want them to take care of the sync…they need to connect…somewhere

also, don’t get the “ip…infected” parts

It’s proprietary iirc

What is that domain/ip that the apps contact?

The virustotal test runs the app in the Android emulator that has … stuff… google services, etc, so those will appear in the logs as google services…connect… to… google lol

So in reality those ips you see in realtions tab, are for android emulator?

yes, please install and test locally for the real results, eg. Use Netguard to see the app connections

Thank you. I will try to do. Does Netguard shows logs? How to do? Although I trust that the apps are clean.
Why isn’t simplenote in F-droid? Also the signal voice app?

link to source code?

the messaging one that’s not fully foss with the single server that’s not fully foss either? well, they don’t want to be foss :person_shrugging:

You should search in their issue tracker first.

Thank you for pointing this.
You mean these are trackers? oh, I wasn’t aware.
But whatever it is in f-droid, is tracker-free, right? I will find alternatives

I see. Any other good voice calling app that is in f-droid? logging like with user and pass
I found these but i dont know how complex they are to use them

For simplenote, like the above user, said, i guess there are trackers in it, idk

As long as they are open source libs trackers can be in. But… for those we have anti-feature flags so you can choose to use the app or not.

I’m biased towards XMPP, so Conversations (or Quicksy) :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Thanks for the suggestions, I’ll check them out!
I was also looking for a notepad with it’s own syncing and a pdf/doc reader.
For notepads so far notesnook and standard notes are the two I found.
PDF readers: this is in F droid too but there’s a tracker in it according to exodus (I don’t know if they use two versions for playstore and fdroid) εxodus

Not sure for this but is it the same as the trackers? it says for crash reporting ( i think i’ve seen another app with that)

https://reports.exodus-privacy.eu.org/en/reports/com.gitlab.mudlej.MjPdfReader/latest/

I guess for docs read/write, collabora is the best. Although only for reading, maybe html viewer would work.

Note that this means “the place the developers track the open issues with their app” and it’s not about “analytics or surveillance or other bad stuff”

I see. What are the anti features of this app?

F-Droid client, open app details…expand description, read
