Trust anchor for certification path not found, older devices

Trying to avoid throwing a few galaxy tab3 in the landfill… repurposing them for ebook readers. They still have over 80% battery life left and an amazing screen.

sadly it’s an intel atom tablet which never got any updates from samsung and is still stuck on 4.4 android, and the comunity never picked any interest in it (sadly it would be awesome to escape android with its x86 cpu…)

anyway, i installed the recommended version of f-droid 1.12 on it, but the system cannot validate the ssl certs when contacting the new repositories.

I already have the version of the ebook readers I want to install on them, just need the client to install everything.

  1. is it easy to add the required root CA certs on the system to connect to the official mirrors? or
  2. If i start a LAN repo share from a newer device, will it work or give me the same problem? or
  3. can I set up a fake mirror locally without ssl?

From reading the threads here I think 3 is possible. but it also looks like the most troublesome.

You’ve read Running on old Android versions | F-Droid - Free and Open Source Android App Repository already and added the intermediary cert?
