I’ve been noticing that forums based on Discourse are increasingly difficult for those of us using older hardware. Versions of mainstream browsers that can be installed on this laptop will not allow me to login here to post anything, rendering the entire forum read-only. And similarly for any of the other old PC hardware I own, or all but one of my androids. The problem has been discussed at Dropping iOS 15 & other old browsers in July 2025 - Announcements - Discourse Meta .
But there may be a solution. Does f-droid self-host this forum? If so, would it be practical to install the Dumbcourse plugin as described at Dumbcourse – Old-browser friendly UI at /dumb (D-pad + small screens) - Plugin - Discourse Meta and available at GitHub - TripleU613/dumbcourse: A plugin to allow your forums UI to support dpad and old browsers · GitHub ?
This sounds like it has a lot of potential to help those of us stuck with older hardware, to continue using these forums.
TIA
