Also, F-Droid Privileged Extension (FPE) is not currently supported by 2.0. That means even if FPE is installed, F-Droid 2.0 won’t use it. This overhaul focused on full featured support for the Android “session” installer. That lets F-Droid run background updates on any recent Android version without requiring FPE. Like with any of the changes here, we welcome feedback.
Hello,
The 2.0 update is really good.
But please consider supporting root or shizuku as an option to install apps.
I too used this feature all the time and it really minds me that it is missing now. It is much more work for me now to update and install apps. I would really appreciate it if you could add the root installer back.
Fair enough, but I ment the Privileged Extension. And a option to install apps through root in the f-droid app itself without the extension would be even more accessible and I would appreciate that as well.
it is manual because I don’t automatically download and install the updates, partially because fdroid struggles doing that in the background on my device and also because I just don’t want to do that. And every time I want to update or install something I get the popup.
Well root is not that specialized. And do you realize how small that number is? 0.0000000000001%? That is 0,0000083 of a person if you look at all the people on earth. I am sure that there are more users with root than that since I exist and am a person. That is a fact. The 0.0000000000001% is just straight up wrong.
If you test 2.0.2 now, yes, you might get it for first time updates (switching from FPE to Session installer I mean), but after that it will be seamless (most of the time)
