Request for support for Android keyboard with end-to-end encryption (E2E)

Hello community,

I’m looking for support or interest in resuming development of KryptEY or creating a new keyboard for Android that offers end-to-end (E2E) encryption between the keyboard and the app, similar to the Signal protocol.

There is currently no active keyboard in 2024–2025 that meets this requirement:

KryptEY and CipherBoard showed great promise, but have not been updated since 2023 (which makes it possible that vulnerabilities have been found)

This poses potential security risks due to lack of maintenance and possible unpatched vulnerabilities.

Alternative keyboards like FlorisBoard or Simple Keyboard are great for privacy (offline, no telemetry), but they do not encrypt what is typed before sending it to the app.

:globe_with_meridians: Considering the rise in privacy threats and surveillance, an open-source and audited E2E keyboard would be a great addition to the community. Even a fork of KryptEY with active support would be a huge step.

Would anyone be interested in colaborativo, contributing ideas, or coordinating a community effort on this?

Thanks for reading.

Curious, which problem would this solve? It is not that any App can listen to keystrokes when another app has the input focus?
