PlayTube Unable to load Videos

Hi everyone,

I’m currently facing a frustrating issue with PlayTube. Whenever users install the app, it is completely unable to extract videos, despite having a stable internet connection.

For context, PlayTube relies on the NewPipe Extractor to fetch streams. From the reports I’ve received, this issue appears to be isolated primarily to users in European countries.

I am trying to determine the root cause and find a fix. My current theories are:

  • EU Cookie Consent Requirements: Are European users being blocked because the extractor needs to send specific cookie consents (like YES+) to bypass region-specific privacy pop-ups?

  • Geo-Location / Anti-Bot Restrictions: Is YouTube flagging or restricting anonymous requests from certain IPs in these regions?

Has anyone else encountered this regional extraction issue when using the NewPipe Extractor? If so, is there a known workaround, or a specific configuration or header I should be passing?

Any guidance, solutions, or insights would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

note that the EU laws never asked for “consent” prompts or overlays, that’s FUD launched by the ads industry

this year EU wants to remove them and have a browser setting BUT ads industry keeps insisting to keep the dark patterns in overlays and prompts

anyway, did you test with Newpipe first?

google does a lot of these. even “per video”, if one gets too popular it will block you and ask for login
