Mozilla forces desktop mode on tablets - all browsers affected - your way to fix

I’m not browsing much on me tablet, it’s for multimedia mainly, but sometimes I need to browse - bigger screen better for eyes.
Just recently noticed that all pages are opened in desktop mode which… Is not good for eyes.
It affects both my geckos, Iceraven and Fennec, but when tested on vanilla Firefox it was the same.
After short chat with AI I’ve acknowldged that Mozilla thinks people using tablets as computers.
Chad even gave me bug reports about that, but had no more time to go deeper.

So my short question after long beginning is: whats your way to fix that quickly and globally?
No solution given by AI was suitable neither worked.

Ps. Shame on Mozilla to make life harder not easier.

This actually goes by screen density than phone vs tablet afair.
So especially if you made your screen more dense via the Settings > Display > Display size it can happen.

by chance did you enabled it by default

  • settings _ site settings _ always request desktop site

No, I haven’t changed anything in about:config, but tried to disable it via variable:
“browser.request.desktop.site false”
but it didn’t work.

  • then its a bug
  • Log in to Bugzilla
  • it was disabled in 137 or 138
    for some reasons
  • or you can complain on matrix

jindam mentioned site settings, not about:config.

Desktop mode for tablets was mentioned in the release notes and states that it can be disabled in Site Settings.

Firefox 133+ defaults to desktop mode on large screens. Disable Always request desktop site in settings > site settings, then restart the browser.

¿Desktop mode isn’t good for your eyes? What a strange perception. Now that we can finally set this option permanently on some “Fox” Browsers, someone is rejecting it.

For me, on tablets, the Desktop option is essential. It’s the only mode in which all the resources offered by the website appear on the screen.

And, if you want to increase your field of view, just increase the zoom of text and images in the Browser’s accessibility section.

Loading page with all the resources is not so much needed for me as time of its loading and when I need desktop mode I can set it manually, which is 1% of my needs.

Fortunately I’ve found proper way to disable desktop mode globally in Page settings in all latest *fox browsers, I don’t know why I’ve missed it before, maybe some app version had a bug and I was victim of some FUD.

It’s just my current opinion but using even biggest tablets (12") with Android, will quickly not be so comfy and secure, as using smallest laptops with 13-14 screen and my favourite OS (Linux > Android > windows).

Okay, your choice is perfectly reasonable and respectable. If you know the results of both options (Desktop on/Desktop off), there’s nothing to argue about.

If I’m not mistaken, we now have a Desktop on/off option in the settings menu on the all “Fox” models.

I didn’t understand how you wanted to access that on/off button.
