Mozc for android update?

Greetings! Here’s an app on fdroid repo, mozc for android( Mozc for Android | F-Droid - Free and Open Source Android App Repository). And it hasn’t received any updated since 2019. But it’s still actively maintained on github. But the app itself doesn’t have an actual release concept, meaning no stable version. And since the last build from 2019, target api is kind of old, meaning there could be issues with android 14 and later. Could the build for this app triggered manually? Since there’s no other foss japanese ime for android, would be kind of sad to see it gone. Thanks in advance!

No, it’s not.

What do you mean it is not?

It’s not actively maintained.

It indeed is actively maintained. Just saw a commit 15 hours old.
Also, it indeed is maintained actively there.

No, it’s not. There is even no android app in that repo anymore.

That is what the OP is asking for, if there is a way to get it as there is no App there.

F-Droid only packages apps. We don’t develop apps. :person_shrugging:

In fact, this has been requested 2 years ago. See mozc outdated (2.25.4150.100 > 2.23.2815.103) (#2198) · Issues · F-Droid / Data · GitLab.

Rather confusing. There was an android app but it’s depricated.

While the library for Android is maintained, the client which is needed for input, isn’t.

Is there an alternative to this then, possibly with a 12 keys layout? Worst case scenario I’ll have to go to Gboard for Japanese only.

Fcitx5 Android has an Anthy plugin. Mozc support is planned but they need to support custom keyboard layout first. We highlight it in F-Droid Alphas and good news for CJK users | F-Droid - Free and Open Source Android App Repository. You can also use rime via Trime or Fcitx5 Android Rime Plugin with a Japanese scheme, e.g. GitHub - gkovacs/rime-japanese: 日语输入法 Input method for typing Japanese with RIME.
