Please, expand on the topic a bit for the more ignorant (among whom I am). Please, explain a little about what Metadata is. And, of course, about the advantages or disadvantages of removing it. Thank you.
Metadata is data ABOUT the file.
Say, you have a photo of a cat. The fact that the cat is black and is laying on his back is the DATA of the file. It doesn’t tell you WHEN, or WHERE (for example) the photo was taken. The metadata is the extra information that the file has inside which has the day and time the photo was taken, the GPS location (if enabled) and also for example the phone/camera model used.
It has advantages and disadvantages. Say, you want to prove something is happening in your workplace, you can’t just have a photo. The metadata will be used as proof in court that the photo was really taken in your workplace. On the other hand, if you have privacy converns, you don’t want people to know you have a specific camera model in that case you need to clean that metadata before sharing the photo.
This is a very simplified version of it, I think you would do well to study it further
