Messenger app with a dedicated storage server space that keeps a backup of messages?

The elaboration is necessary so that my question is understood as intended.

I have observed that Telegram messaging service lets me shift from an older smartphone to a newer smartphone without the need for me to transfer data from the older to the newer smartphone. All my messages and chats are automatically found intact on my new smartphone.

This is the reason for my appreciation for the Telegram app.

Unfortunately, not many use Telegram app in my country, possibly because of the earlier arrival and the more aggressive marketing of Whatsapp app than the Telegram app in the Android universe of my country.

I could easily be mistaken in my inferences, and I am ready to be corrected.

It is apparent from my above paragraphs that I believe, that unlike the Telegram messenger, the Whatsapp messaging service doesn’t have a full back up of my earlier messages, only some of the latest ones. We, the users of Whasapp, have to use the WiFi or the Bluetooth network to transfer our Whatsapp messages from our older smartphone to the newer one. Or upload all messages to our specific Google Drive and then download them to the other phone.

Without any secrets to hide from my fellow citizens, except some passwords, I am not that bothered about the government agencies snooping into my conversations.

Also, as stated earlier, I am of the firm belief that my nation’s government doesn’t snoop into the private life of citizens unless the intelligence agencies find out that they are engaged in serious criminal activities.

So encryption is not an issue of concern for me. I am not bothered if my Telegram storage space is snooped upon.

But I am certain that this aforesaid automatic backup storage space is a very important criterion for me to select a messenger app.

Is there another app that is as potent as the Telegram app in this regard? I want to reduce my dependence on my Whatsapp usage. I can’t presently do away with it totally, as most of my acquaintances and family members use whatsapp.

As an aside, Telegram has two drawbacks though. It goes through my contact list and often adds unwanted, undesirable contacts into my Telegram contact list. This is a prick of irritation for me. Another prick is Telegram’s broadcasting my using it to other common contacts, even when undesired.

If this automatic scanning is stopped and my unwillingness to broadcast my using Telegram is protected and upheld, I would be appreciating the Telegram messaging service software even more.

I would use this opportunity to also ask if Communications would suit me as my desired messaging service software.

I believe you can change this function:

Open Telegram, go to settings. Open Privacy and Security.
Change “Who can find me by my phone number” to nobody.
Then, when your contacts and friends join telegram, they will not be alerted that you also have a telegram account, just because they know your phone number or have you in their contacts.

You can also choose not to broadcast when you are online as well under those security settings.

EDIT: This setting option may also be in a different place depending if you use Telegram FOSS, official Telegram, desktop telegram, etc., but all I have looked at have this option.

Signal and Threema can easily be transferred from one smartphone to the other.
Threema in addition can (option) backup all your messages to a Threema server.
