[BUG] K9 crash after update to v12 · Issue #9711 · thunderbird/thunderbird-android · GitHub It’s a known bug. It has been fixed in 12.1. Kindly wait for it to be built to be available on F-Droid.
My bad. I did not check github.
Thanks a lot vdbhb59

Is there an ETA for when the 12.1 version will be available on F-droid? Thanks in advance.
It is already made available. Been approx week and half I guess.
I’m on F-droid 1.23.1 but it won’t update K9 to 12.1 from my installed version of 12.0. F-droid does show 12.1 as the latest version but no option to update.
Picture of the app details screen with Versions expanded?
Did you toggle skip update or skip all in upper right menu?
Thanks, the ignore updates had been inadvertently toggled. All good now. ![]()
And they say both apps are identical… Liars.
On 12.1 K-9 you can still configure font sizes for whole app, although them names are enigmatic, on 12.1 Thunderbird you cannot configure at all - they disabled this for other things development.
Both apps are pretty unstable and hard to use.
not seeing unstable-ness here, what do you mean?
K-9 crashed on me few times, mostly noticeable when trying to mingle into account settings and folders.
you’ve got stack traces (eg. via adb or Scoop | F-Droid - Free and Open Source Android App Repository ) and reported them upstream?
Nope. I don’t know yet how to use that, but if the time lets me, I will do.
I’m very fussy about my email clients. Primary client MailMate on macOS. K9 is the most powerful, stable and easily configurable mobile email client I’ve ever seen across Android or iOS. And it’s the only good mobile mail client which doesn’t read your mail or store some part of it on its own servers. Allegations of instability based on a sample size of one is a bit unfair.
There is also FairEmail.
Good point. I should take FairEmail for a spin too. K9 has been so good, I haven’t been tempted.
I recommend FairEmail. You can configure EVERYTHING. Far more than in K-9/Thunderbird. Especially Thunderbird. It misses even font size config - disabled in purpose. Weird that in K-9 it works.
Font-size was key for me with K9. I have strong presbyopia which means very large typefaces if I want to use my devices without glasses. K9 is a single opinionated developer fixing all the development-by-committee lacunas in a project like Thunderbird. Such rewraps save a lot of great code and millions of donated coding hours from going to waste.
