May this Android PlayStore app be perused: Clear Scan - PDF Scanner App
This app has a particular tool - Perspective Correction - that is high utility.
I have checked the F-Droid repo for an Image Edit-or with the said perspective correction tool. Have not yet had a positive result. Some of the apps I came across, e.g., Focal(Advanced camera), Fossify Gallery, etc., none of the app pages has the word “perspective” and anything related to perspective, based on the individual app info page on F-Droid.
Any suggestion for a Perspective Editor for images please? I’ve searched with the strings, “Perspective correct images”, “photo edit”, “image edit”, but no encouraging result emerged.
GIMP is too powerful an application for a smartphone to be handled well to work for general users. But a very shredded, customised version could help.
So basically angular and edge removals to enhance the picture and remove any shadows as such. This causes loss of edges and may not give clear picture, but who is to say on that.
This may come a bit handy, but nothing else at all. Also, I doubt it may come in due to dependency on closed source libs for that feature and related features to work.
Not strictly. But of course, any excess pixels removed using an imaginary Free-Crop tool, i.e., a crop tool without a restriction on any of the 4 vertices. The Perspective, Shear, etc. tools under the Transform Sub-menu in GIMP could explain better.
But GIMP is pure FOSS AFAIK. GIMP appeared to be available in Google Play Store. I am not sure if its being available in Play Store discourages its porting to F-Droid.
I had used the said app during 2018-2022 for tidbit works, when I didn’t want to use my flatbed scanner for higher resolution images.
For those tidbit works the app worked ok for me.
But I don’t say that I really liked the app. It was one among the only few that existed to fulfil my needs.
To me, it appears real strange that despite the common knowledge that the camera lens and the slants while holding the smartphone to click pics cause perspective alteration to pics, there is no app to correct these distortions manually. Tiny perspective correction app with circular wire-frames would have helped.
May be, developers would be inspired by this thread to try out creating one. Let’s observe.
