Hello, it is in follow system mode, I think it can be implemented in Android 9 as well , but the instructions are different.
depending how the vendor implemented system dark mode on 9, apps may or may not be able to detect/handle it
The developers of this app can modify the app to be compatible with how the automatic dark theme switch is activated based on the system settings in Android 9.
