Hi! I’m just starting the process of disconnecting from Google, and my computer skills are nonexistent…
I’ve been using Etar for a while now, and it’s working fine. Now I’m using it synced with Google Calendar.
The next step is to open a Murena account and start the calendar from that account, which I’ll then sync to Nextcloud (more later). This is important because I break my phone too often, and I can’t lose my calendar and contacts if I use offline mode.
The thing is, even though I’ve started entering new events through the Murena account, I’d like to disconnect the Google account I was using. But I can’t find a way to export/import everything I already have with Google, nor how to delete that account.
I haven’t used Etar, but you should be able to disconnect your Google account using Google’s interface as well. Go to accounts.google.com select “security” and find your connections to third-party apps. Remove Etar.
Okay, thanks, sounds good. The only thing missing is the ability to export the Google calendar. I know how to create the file, but I don’t see anything similar to “import” in ETAR
Bulk export is not available, afaics. However, individual files can be done. So for example, click on your event, then 3 dots on the right top, share and save. Export for some reason may not work, but share works.
Google may not have an export function, but Etar might. Export from there before you disconnect your Google account. If Etar does not, you can use Fossify Calendar.
What would I gain over Etar? I’ve been using this one for a while now, and it gives me what I need. The truth is, learning how to use another one is a bit of a chore
As I said, I’m not tech-savvy; I just want to avoid Google.
That’s why I started using Etar, because it’s what Murena uses, which is the workspace(s) I plan to move to (once I start to understand how to do it).
I haven’t looked at all the differences. I’m sure Etar is fine for your daily use. I suggested Fossify, since you would be able to export your entire Google calendar at once, then import it into Etar if you like. Etar doesn’t seem to have an export function.
I installed it to have a look around, and honestly, there isn’t much difference in use from the other one. It also seems to have many more options and is quite intuitive.
I quickly imported my other calendars. Except for the colors, which are all gone.
And I also noticed the option to save backups to the SD card, which for me could be a good way to avoid using Drive while I learn how to save and sync in other ways.
Anyway, I’m going to have a look around a bit, but I might stick with Fossify.
I also see there are quite a few more Fossify apps!
