Help! F-D app won't work. Just installed; connection error; but there's nothing in the way

Just downloaded f-driod from this site. It won’t search, nor display categories, reporting
No recent apps found
No categories to display
No matching applications available

The app settings are proper and i’ve disabled the Tracker Control app, so there’s nothing special about the phone’s connection to wifi.

Help?

When toggling thr f-droid repository on and off it says, “failed to connect to 127.0.0.1:8118 to /127.0.0.1 (port 8118)…”

i Love the concept and movement for open source but it can be so frustrating as a person devoid of developer-type competencies and many computer skills.

It’s taken me two hours to try to convert an heic to another format, and i’m no closer than when I began.

Hello, Mr. Vegancommy, were the initial troubleshooting steps taken? Shutdown-restart? If that doesn’t work, uninstall-reinstall?
If that doesn’t work, then the smartphone model, Android version, etc., might help.

It is assumed that the F-Droid apk was downloaded from this website itself and it was used to install the F-Droid app.

After you have posted your observation on the above troubleshooting steps, the seniors here would definitely be in a better position to suggest better steps.

in Settings, disable “Use Tor”

Thanks to Rajiban and Licaon_Kter!

Ive shut down and restarted, and confirmed that the “disable tor” setting is toggled off.

Status unchanged.

The Tor idea is interesting, and clearly based on evidence. I have increasingly tried to minimize corporate invasion of privacy, so when I said that nothing is in place between f-Droid and functioning Wi-Fi, perhaps there is some Android setting I don’t recall changing. Not sure if this is helpful. Perhaps i should have said more precisely that I don’t believe any app is interfering.

Any other ideas would be appreciated!

What error do you see now?

The status is unchanged as far as i can tell. Same non-access and error reports. Is there anything i can look for?
Test?
And i didnt explicitly confirm earlier that i used this sites apk for install.

I am a little confused. Why then did you mark one post as a solution if the problem wasn’t mitigated?

Marking a question/post solved (i.e., a particular post as a solution) will only bring readers who are seeking a solution similar to yours. But such marking might dissuade info that could contribute to tentative solutions.

I am sure that your problem will eventually be solved, the seniors would ensure a solution. But unless a solution is found, had I been in your shoes, I wouldn’t have marked a post as a Solution.

In the meanwhile please try to check if you can install a tiny (any) app from the Android playstore. Also please check if you can access the internet and your other internet-dependent apps, using mobile data, WiFi and bluetooth, one at a time.

May be the problematic areas will be identified.

I marked it.

Ah, my bad, disable “Enable HTTP Proxy” too.

I can’t fathom the depth of understanding that a professional programmer might have. Beyond my domain. So I won’t venture into the unknown. I will let time have my answer reach me.

Generally, I wouldn’t have marked a thread for someone else, even if I had your level of computing wisdom. I would have allowed the service recipient his decision to choose.

Your domain. Your choice. Your decision. I am not questioning your decision. I am not passing a judgement. Just conversing.

There are many aspects in life that I don’t understand. Of course, they are not my domains to understand. I am only a fragile human in need for a Social Contract to be upheld to survive in this world.
