Hacktoberfest: searching for FOSS apps to contribute to

I’m searching for an Android app to contribute to during Hacktoberfest contest. I hate spam and unfair tactics, that’s why I came here to be helpful and ask you guys if someone needs help.
So, if your application is hosted on Github and is written in Java, I can help you with something probably.

Anyway, either if you’re searching for a project to contribute to or you’re searching for contributors, feel free to post in this thread.

There are a few abandoned yet very useful apps. Would be great if you picked one or two of them. Come to my mind :

  1. https://github.com/asksven/BetterBatteryStats needs fixing
  2. SUSI.AI https://f-droid.org/packages/ai.susi probably a big yet attracting idea
  3. https://github.com/ligi/BLExplorer needs one little fix and a couple of tiny improvements

Good luck

Abandoned apps might not be a good fit for Hacktoberfest, as there is no maintainer who could merge the pull requests. (I know they don’t have to be merged but it’s kind of pointless to do something that will not get merged).

A maintained app that you could try would be AntennaPod  The issues labelled with Hacktoberfest get assigned pretty quickly after creating, though. So there are not so many easy issues left.

With new rules it’s important for repository to have hacktoberfest tag and for PR to be either merged, approved or marked as hacktoberfest-accepted. Source. Probably if the issue is not marked as hacktoberfest, it can be solved as well

Thanks! I did not know that and added the tag to AntennaPod.

Yeah, at least that’s how it was last year. I label issues if I think they are a good fit for new contributors.

I’m sorry, but I can’t help your project for a reason:
I downloaded the source code and tried to build it and my laptop hanged. Seems like it can’t handle building such big projects.

For OpenTracks we could need some help if you have some spare time.

These two are open since some time and nobody is working on them, but they provide some user value:

Also reproducible builds would be great: https://github.com/OpenTracksApp/OpenTracks/issues/418

if you are looking for projects still, i.e. Markor (Markdown notes / todo.txt) always welcomes new faces!

All my other GitHub projects … like memecreator MemeTastic ( https://github.com/gsantner/memetastic/labels/hacktoberfest ) also have the hacktoberfest tag.

You can try https://github.com/austinhuang0131/barinsta which is an Instagram client. Hacktoberfest-labeled. Though we do need a long-term maintainer as well.

What am I supposed to do in order to get help with my Android launcher?
