Graphene OS Questions, comments, concerns, etc

Okay. Let us do something. Let us shift to what this forum is all about, okay? F-Droid. The posts above all seem and lead only to GOS. Please can we not make.it GOS related? F-Droid as a community is very open, but to take over and run battle here and go on and on about truth and falsehood, it is too much. Unless any of these make any good towards the community, especially F-Droid, good, else it is just useless for everyone else as it is all about an OS which makes no logical reasoning to be here. I will moderate and keep it open for now, but please keep it to a user level and not rage a war here. There is enough toxic elements in the world, let us not spread that material here.
Danke.

It does not have anything EXTRA, it LACKS some features like SD/USB repos and Swapping apps.

The only UI difference is the “Latest” screen which has only one sized tile.

what are you talking about? update F-Droid Client to 1.20-alpha1 then, to see the new repo selector and whatnot. :person_shrugging:

/LE:

You mean targetSDK wise? Umm… it’s coming for F-Droid too, already at 29… takes time, but everybody is busy sandboxing Play instead of helping F-Droid :person_shrugging:

This is the first time $USERNAME has posted — let’s welcome them to our community!

Nice to see new users and nice that people talk about the base OS that F-Droid runs on.

But we’ll start muting new users IF their only reason to join is to play the “muh OS” game.

/PS: some personal remarks

@optimumpro better use the time to develop your own OS instead of these useless fights, maybe make it FOSS too

@mbananasynergy funny how your posts went from “GOS does” to “we do”, I remember our past interactions elsewhere when you kept saying “I’m only a user”

And finally, lets all pause for a bit and wonder, if F-Droid does not need any of these shenanigans and sandboxing, why are you wasting so much time taming the Play malware packages instead of working on fun stuff instead?

It really sounds like you’re either misquoting or misremembering something I’ve said. I’ve been a community moderator for GrapheneOS since way before the first time we spoke, and I always use the same username everywhere. It would be very weird for me to pretend not to be a moderator when anybody can clearly see that (I even linked to my GrapheneOS forum page above!)

It would be unfortunate for me to be muted for joining to correct misconceptions on this forum. I’m happy to talk about other topics and participate, but surely there’s no problem with responding (with evidence) to claims made about something?

I’m sure you could say that about a lot of things. You could certainly say that about microG, hell, you could even say something like that about Asahi Linux. Not everyone has to focus on the same thing, and it’s alright if you don’t personally find value in something. Coexisting is fine by me.

I want to say a few things because honestly I am quite tired of this too and this topic has most definitely overstayed it’s welcome.

I agree I see enough toxicity over this kind of stuff as it is.

Just to say how I feel about toxic discussions on android operating systems or just any operating system for that matter. these custom android operating systems need more constructive critism than anything. These operating systems are supposed to help the user have a device that is more up to their standards whether it be added security and privacy or something else. Critism is important as it helps inform a user making a decision between one OS and another bout any potential concerns and it can genuinely help improve flaws within any said OS. Slander and mindlessly throwing potential reasons not to use a OS However is extremely unproductive and uncivil and does not help anyone. At all. In my personal opinion the best ways to discuss how good a OS is to not say what you think is better over the other or how bad a OS is. just list the pros and cons (That HAVE been proven!) and leave it at that

And the post did originally relate to f-droid though I suppose maybe it would’ve been better off in the grapheneOS forum due to it specifically targeting grapheneOS users. Especially since it has drifted from the original topic ofc.

As much as I do agree with this I do think it was better to have @mbananasynergy here to have someone very knowledgable on the matter to defend the OS too.

However I do also think it would’ve been better if this whole ordeal didn’t happen in the first place. Nothing good came out all of this. At all which isn’t surprising what good WAS able to come out of this.

I do partially agree here google play is awfully boring and lame and malicious (especially when it’s privileged) but some people sadly do need it’s monopolistic evil. So I can understand trying to limit the harm that it does as well. I do hope to see grapheneOS come out with more cool stuff in the future though and every open source OS for that matter.

Even though this was all very off topic and not very productive at all I do think it was better for you to be here yes and I do not think defending a project (with valid evidence too!) Should result in any punishment. After all you weren’t the one to start this anyways.

I think this is simply based on the fact that f-droid still doesn’t have it. Not that it’s going to get it. I’m sure when it does this comparison will probably die down a bit.

Nice presentation. Nice try, but totally beyond the point.

I showed you ‘System Update’, not Dynamic System Update (DSU). DSU function has to do with GSI images only. It is NOT used on most custom roms.

Check your System Update UID and you’ll see that it is in 10000+ range (not 1000) together with innocent third party apps.

I am done here.
