Google will require developer verification to install Android apps, including sideloading

This Arceus discussions. Please take it offline on DM or someplace else. There is no OS or device, or whatever this is. Let us not speak of such a land of divine fantasy, when it does not exist. When it comes into reality, feel free to open a different thread and speak, but it has nothing in real terms.

Sheesh…We see such names being used for other launchers, so, it’s reasonable that somebody will use that same name for an Android replacement.

I do not mind, but as I said, unlike those launchers, this OS is not active, not even code wise. Hence…

storm on waves

I meant launchers for anything, including ROBLOX, which has Age Verification problems, and appears to follow what Google is doing by forcing ID Verification, and there is a launcher for ROBLOX that actually uses the name Arceus, so, that proves my point that the name Arceus AOS is theoretically possible. Logically speaking.

I too would appreciate the off-topic discussions to be taken elsewhere.

2 posts were split to a new topic: Which Linux distro does not have ties with Google

Well, I finally ran across a website article stating that, in November of 2025, Google went back on their decision: Developer Verification is NOT required anymore, Power users can use some sort of ā€œAdvanced Flow" feature to continue installing applications as normal (Sideloading applications that don’t have developer verification). Though, I do question it’s integrity…

There’s no info besides some tweets, so no, I’d not call it ā€œdoneā€

True, it’s still technically speculation, because Google could still backstab us, like they love to do…

Knowing Google, they will probably make the ā€œAdvanced Flowā€ feature very hard to enable so that only a few people are able to sideload. But I guess we’ll see how it plays out

While that gets sorted out, we now need to shift our attention towards the rapidly spreading Age Verification crisis that’s plaguing services, as Discord, a major communication hub, is getting pressured by Roblox into further expanding Age Verification to restrict Free Speech: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfspiibG_2c

Google we already know is doing it without our consent. So clearly we need to fire everything we got and stop Age Verification from destroying the world we know! We have rights to free speech, and we are rapidly losing them. It’s making TOR and the Dark Web more tempting to use, and that alone is extremely dangerous!

This is an important point. ā€œSideloadā€ is a propaganda term used by grApple and Goggle to inply that using their app store is the proper way to install software. I refuse to use the term ā€œsideloadā€. For the same reason I refuse to call copyrights and patents ā€œintellectual propertyā€, or the NewSpeak contraction ā€œIPā€. Same reason I refuse to another NewSpeak contraction, ā€œAIā€œ, to describe Trained MOLEs (generative models).

If the goal is to maintain software freedom and Google’s Pixel devices offer it, by allowing to flash custom ROMs, what is the problem with buying their phones?

They gain less money from this than their data bussiness, so I agree but don’t feel that avoiding their devices we’d be making a dent in their profits.

And with Age Verification laws & systems being implemented, they have so much to gain from stealing every last bit of our info. We seriously need to stop Age Verification, then the data brokering side can disintegrate gradually.

Don’t be naive: Data brokerage industry hasn’t shown any disintegration in the absence of ā€˜age verification’, quite the opposite - it has flourished.
