Forced to use non-FOSS app

Is there a way for me to protect the phone when using non-foss apps? Signing up for a medical health program will force me to put its app and other apps on my phone.

You can start with tracker control to block much data collection as possible, but are you really “forced” to use those apps when you can use your browser like you will on a PC ?

Use Insular | F-Droid - Free and Open Source Android App Repository or Shelter | F-Droid - Free and Open Source Android App Repository to create a separate profile and install those apps there.

Thank you, grm34, but i inquired whether the app could be used on a windows PC, and the reply was no. So i think it csnnot be used on a browser.

Thank you, Licaon_Kter, these sound like exactly what i need. I will try to use them.

Oh that’s just false. Unless it requires a phone number you can always run android apps in a virtual machine (assuming the computer is fast enough for that, which these days most of them are.)

I think Microsoft has even been experimenting with adding in the support just like they did with WSL2 (but I wouldn’t know since I only really use Linux.)

Another option, if rooted, is App Manager - Android package manager.
It allows for blocking in-app trackers.

Depending on ROM setup I use it as the installer for Aurora Store where it will block trackers during installation.
If by chance an app doesn’t work properly I can unblock any “necessary” trackers.

Blocking apps internet using Net Policy is probably one of the best option for no-root users. (Root/ADB-only feature)

Or block internet access using VPN based apps like Karma Firewall, RethinkDNS, InViziblePro

Signing up for a medical health program will force me to put its app and other apps on my phone.

If you’ve to use proprietary apps such as health, banking apps you’ve to use them. We’ve too many options or too little options based on our threat model.
