Hi folks! I’ve recently been trying out F-Droid… pretty cool so far except for one major annoyance. Not sure if I’m missing an option or if this is expected behavior or what.
The issue is: I have several F-Droid-available apps already installed via Google Play (Markor, Syncthing, etc.). I’ve only installed a couple of apps with F-Droid so far (Mull, e.g.).
However, both F-Droid clients I’ve tried so far (the default one and Droidify) show a big list of installed apps, consisting almost entirely of apps I’ve installed via Play Store. There doesn’t appear to be a way to see which apps I’ve actually installed with F-Droid.
The only clue I can get is if I navigate into each individual app’s page, where (at the very bottom) I get a warning about signatures not matching, asking me to uninstall my installed version to update.
Is there any way to filter out these results? I’m not quite ready to uninstall and re-install all of my apps yet, and it’s pretty annoying to have no idea which apps I’ve actually installed via F-Droid, are actually update-able by F-Droid, etc.
I appreciate any help!
(P.S. Apologies if this has been discussed before. I searched, but couldn’t find anything related to this topic – just the inverse, with F-Droid apps showing up in Play Store. (A problem which seems to have been fixed?))
apps with different signatures can’t be updated from F-Droid anyway, so you’ll never seen them offered for updates
Some apps, 10% or so today, are built reproducible, so they are hosted by F-Droid but signed by the developer and these can be cross updated.
yes, the list shows all apps with the same appid, no matter the source, be it Github, F-Droid or Play
Not really, Play does the same thing, even pops up erroneous “update” dialogues when it knows updates will fail, it does this for the last year unfortunately.

But is there any way to filter these out at all, even just as a temporary view? Doesn’t sound like there is?
I think that would be a really nice client feature, especially for new users to F-Droid. It’s cool to see how many of my own already-installed apps are available to install via F-Droid, but without any visual indication or filtering to see which apps are actually installed via F-Droid (or have matching signatures one way or another), I think I’ll have to manually write out a checklist of all my available apps and mark them off as I migrate over.

Oh, very cool. Also good to know, thanks!

This might have been fixed recently or something. I just tested this with Vinyl music player, which has (at the time I tested) a newer version available on the Play Store than F-Droid. I installed the (older) F-Droid version and checked Play Store and it did not offer an update. And when I clicked into it, it warned me that it wasn’t installed from the Play Store, etc.
