FairEmail setup problem

I’m loving my new OnePlus tablet. But without email it’s useless. I’ve installed FairMail from F-Droid, attracted by open source license and privacy promise. But all efforr to connect with my Fastmail provider have failed. First issue was transfering the eye-numbing app password required by Fastmail. Solved that by deft use of SSH across two systems. But now, even with that password, all efforts to connect fail. I do have the Fastmail server ids. But can’t figure out how to get them into FairEmail.

Can some kind soul show me the way?

Many thanks,

LRP

What error are you getting? I use Fastmail with FairEmail and it works very well.

Make sure that you are using the correct login email address and not an alias. You can add aliases after successful connection.

Thanks for your response, Cue.

Login name is correct, so I need to dig deeper.

These are my settings:

Much appreciate this Cue.

IMAP config looks identical to my reattempt to connect this morning with a fresh new app password from my Fastmail account. But it was rejected.

I have a ticket outstanding with Fastmail. Hope to hear good news soon.

This is critical for me since I’m headed out of the country in a few days and really need email on my Android tablet.

Thanks again,

LRP

What is the error message?

Here’s the config data I’ve entered:

Host name: imap.fastmail.com
Port: 993
Username: redacted
Password: Just created a new app password labeled Android
Error message: Incorrect username, password or access token

I’m fairly sure that email address is not the proper one. I may be incorrect, but I think that even with a custom domain, your actual Fastmail account must be with one of their own domains.

In the regular Fastmail app or their webmail, go to settings, billing and plan. Your account email address should be shown.

I also suggest that you edit your post to remove your email address.

This is from Fastmail support prior to my latest failed attempt. It was in response to a connection request I made with the Wizard. My latest attempt is manual. But note that username is correct:

— Looking at the screenshot you provided, I do see that there is an authentication error. If you’re using your Fastmail username redacted …and an app password, then this shouldn’t be the issue. Now for your IMAP and SMTP servers, I do see that you’re using “redacted”. As you’re setting up your Fastmail account, please make sure you’re using the Fastmail server settings for this. You can find these settings on our Server names and ports help page.

You’re the best,Cue, for your support.

Got it. Regardless of login address one must use imap.fastmail.com and smtp.fastmail.com for the server addresses.
