OpenCollective looks like it could be a nice way to both make our donations more transparent, as well as raise more funds. I’ve only read a bit about it. Does anyone know much about it?

Not much. Just found them on Github a while ago. Other than Flattr or Liberapay, OC rather seems to be “federation like” – i.e. there are multiple instances which are moderated rather independently. Which also applies to payment processors used. There seem to be some not entirely opposed to manually process SEPA for checkout every now and then, for example.
