Hi folks,
since a couple of days the f-droid forum app doesn’t open anymore on my Tablet (Android 15/iodéOS 6.7). All I see is the screen (background) and the five dancing dots.
Any idea what’s going on here?

The forum app is outdated, use a browser instead.

With the latest update, the forum app no longer works. While the forum app is designed to run via webview to an extent, it seems there have been certain changes to the app (discourse/forum) in itself, which are not getting rendered.
If possible raise it with discourse once, and see if they can confirm it as a BAU or a BUG.
Which one is the forum app???
I wish someone can upgrade it, so that it can be used again. I tried, but I do not have the level of knowledge to do it.
@uniqx is there any possibility here mate? I know you archived it, and there was a discussion of not getting PWA/Wrappers on F-Droid, but this app was very good for many who did not wish to be tied to a browser etc.

I could fix the the app, but it seems pointless since I wouldn’t want to fight the other team members on the no PWA policy.

I know, and that is why I am not sure how to go about it. However, if you can fix it, and make it available here/offline, maybe the users who use it daily can get some relief. I can host it on my own git as well, and I do not know how to build it though.
Also, maybe we can make one exception for just the forum app? Doubtful though.

Oh, damn … 
It’s not very convenient to use the forum via a browser when I’m on my tablet. It doesn’t fit the screen, you always have to move from left to right and back to read everything.

There are browsers on Android that have a desktop mode available (e.g. Chromite). You can switch to it in the (quick) settings. Maybe that helps.

I tried with Cromite myself. Trouble is, even if I keep BG on, and if I switch between apps for more than 30-45 seconds, the forum starts to reload. I have other discourse forums giving the same issue on cromite.
BTW @uniqx I wanted to have this same forum app for other forums which are based on discourse, but I failed badly few months back. Forum App Build Help

Used the App for a while but imho it is missing a very important feature - opening links in several tabs. Without that feature I would not go back to it.

I also have hopes for this app - r8 now using a homescreen shortcut/webapp - its shitty - as soon as an external link is called/new domain - it opens my default browser, from which its impossible to switch back to the webapp which than is missing in recents, its converted to the default Browser object with the new external website.
I can’t switch back to the thread I was before.
Without forum bookmarks.

Not sure what’s the state of Qt/QML apps on android but someone could take this MIT licensed code and replace SilicaXYZ with XYZ, change pullup/pushupmenus into normal menus and you’ll have 90% working generic QT discourse app (GitHub - szopin/harbour-discourser), currently in the process of adding login support and seems to work ok so far (except outdated browser on sailfish, so most discourse forums refuse to work), main beef is in the xhr’s anyway. Btw anyone knows if the reaction emojis here are some kind of standard, or just custom fdroid discourse feature? Broke my likes indicator, but posting seems to work fine

I’ve just tried it on Fennec and apart from a healthy dose of lag, it seems to be working perfectly well - barely. Also the issue would be how I’m running a heavily-modified version of arkenfox (GitHub) user.js so that my browser is behaving (turns out not that well, blah!); no idea what it would be like just on factory, though.

Everything seems to be working nicely over there; no -such- lag as here, looks a lot moar functional, btw!

It’s [also,duh] drawing the page super-weirdly & it’s definitely to do with scrolling.
EDIT: Alright, so unchecking Profile >> Preferences >> Interface >> “Automagically unpin topics when I reach the bottom” seemingly makes it behave differently somewhat normally. 
Cromite had an update recently, just in case you didn’t notice.
