Do you assume that F-droid developers are not part of the labour force? That they do not also need to work, to put food on the table, and to house their families? How much money are you willing to pay them in order they can give up employment and fulfill your wants?
To broaden the discussion: Why should this solution just work with apps that are part of the F-Droid repository? There are other repositories with open-source apps. I like the structure of https://alternativeto.net/ . Is there an open source/data project like it? For the people who want a rating support: Establish a well working and solid project and F-Droid could first include a link for each app and if the project proves to be rock solid the data could be included in the F-Droid view of each app.
PS: Any volunteers with spare time?
I assume CORRECTLY that a big portion of FDroid developers are in the labour force that is very closely, if not directly, affiliated with Software Development of some kind; as opposed to the mass public which is verifiably NOT!
If they (mass public) were, we wouldnât be having this discussion (or even a FDroid) to begin with.
It is not just about time in general that the mass public doesnât have, to be a part of this/any FOSS âprojectâ, it is the ADDITIONAL time they do not have to learn from ZERO (as mostly everyone here, likely does not have to start from) how to code/develop.
A good percentage of people today still use their phones for text and calls exclusively FFs!
The cell phone (which is FACTUALLY a pocket computer) is not something that has been around a couple generations where everyone has the basic understanding of operations like, e.g. a car, this is something that has literally been shoved into everyones daily life at full speed in (arguably) less than 10 years.
Please tell me how many of your non phone/computer savy friends or family members even know how to tap on the Build Number X amount of times, on their Android to enable developer mode??
Even if you gave a value greater than 1, you (and those the like) would be the exception not the rule.
Listen, at the end of the day it takes 2 to dance (I get that), everyone here is trying (for selfish or selfless reasons, only they know deep down) the best they can, but to have the default perspective in FDroid, or any FOSS, that the mass public is the one that needs to make this work is an idea that IMO will be the downfall of all of this.
Me personally?
whatever it takes, but thatâs because I have been here for over 4 years.
And I have seen it grow, the potential here, and how it has been able to keep up with all the changes.
But to prove my point:
I am loosely familiar with computer Software & Hardware in my daily work life.
What is it that I âwantâ?
Been using the crap out of this site since you posted it.
