Download the F-Droid repo to local archive

Hello,

Smartphone storage is getting cheap, you get nowadays 1 Terabyte memory card for about 70 USD and the price will go lower.

I’m an off-grider that is building an archive of films, music, books and apps to carry on the phone and share with other people locally (without access to Internet) in case of need in the future.

For apps I’ve been storing the APK files on subfolders but recently started digging deeper into F-Droid and the functionality to add new repositories of apps. Therefore the current goal is to download the whole repository used as default for F-Droid, to store this inside the large memory card and then use my own phone as server within the local network for others to search and install apps as they need in the future.

So far this seems possible, but I’m looking for the location to download the archive and doesn’t seem available. I see F-Droid Archive where 3416 apps are hosted. From there is possible to download the index-v1.json file (or jar) with the full set of info and from that info we can build the direct download links.

However, this would place a lot of strain on the F-Droid because it downloads all apps which are ~3000 * (4 different archs + 1 source) = 15 000 downloads.

Question: Is there a way to simply download the whole folder as a large JAR/ZIP file?

No, not really.

Also, use mirrors to soften the load…
