How different than Dolphin itself is it? Dolphin Emulator | F-Droid - Free and Open Source Android App Repository

I don’t know how deep the changes are, but they managed to get dolphin working reasonable on mid range phones, while the original dolphin is not usable at all.
However as the maintainer of this app noted in the issue linked above, there is currently no one who takes active care/maintains it atm.
