Did anyone else get spam email from f-droid-devs-bully@proton.me?

Hi there,

I am the dev of the radio app Transistor. I recently got a unfriendly spam email that seems to be written by an AI. The mail was somewhat tailor-made. It tried to pick up the app description and use it as basis for insults. :person_shrugging:

Anymay at first I just deleted it, because I really don’t care. Attention spent on this is wasted.

But then I thought: Maybe I should share the incident, because it is likely other devs received spam as well. The mail originated from f-droid-devs-bully@proton.me

If it is counter-productive - because: don’t feed em - to have a topic about this here in the forum, let’s just discuss my post.

Cheers

Nope. At least not me. But I can get your point. If you get something similar, please share here. Meanwhile if possible, kindly report and block on your end.

I did as well. Usually stuff like this goes straight to the trash, but this time I actually answered the mail. In response I got a human written response and apology, explaining that this was just a dumb joke and the AI sending the mail was ā€˜set to ā€œhostile & meanā€ settings and craft a personalized email based on the app profile’.

Thank you for sharing how you handled the situation.

Very odd. Also sounds scary. Targeted hostility is not good.
