Definition of light weight?

The app is 140MB and one of the biggest apps in F-Droid

Gallery (Light-weight Media Gallery)

Oh well… if the issue can’t be fixed, the app description should be fixed not to say anything about lightweight.

Actually the issue can be fixed and it will be lighter than fossify gallery (prolly making it the lightest gallery on fdroid ) . The issue is the app is not distributed as split architectures in fdroid but a universal one which includes multiple architectures and makes the app 4 times bigger than needed . The github release page serves split apks which comes between 35-40 mb (lighter than fossify) . If anyone want to help the dev with also supporting split apks in fdroid feel free . I would’ve loved to help out but sadly am not a dev .

Good but 35MB is still far from lightweight. Actually I am disappointed that Fossify Gallery became so big recently.

bruh, they gotta be big or you won’t be able to open so many formats

Valv has encryption and builtin gallery and is 4.8 MB. How many relevant image formats are missing?

VLC with support for every imaginable media format since 1980 is just 34.5MB in the stable version.

I am not complaining if some devs have different priorities than keeping apps small but lets call things by the right name.

i think JPEG XL alone increases a lot of app size and that format is relevant enough to be included . I’d rather have an app that can handle all format than having to search for another one when a lightweight one i use doesn’t support a format . That’s why i use VLC too . But different folks and all i guess .

That is all fine, just don’t call it lightweight. There are still some Apps in F-Droid that are well under 1MB, not too long ago the Sicmu music player had 150kb for example.

They called it lightweight gallery not lightweight app
