And at 2:48:53 he mentions the infamous “black phone” and then at 2:49:10 he says there is plans for a team to build and app that would have some of this phones features.
Questions:
if this “black phone” exists, does it (predictably) have features equal to or greater than some of features we get from (in my case) a GOS phone, or a custom ROM phone (Best phone (smartphone) for custom ROM?), or any of the other pseudo “FOSS” phones out there(e.g. Brax3, Librem 5, Unplugged, etc etc etc.) If its not running FDroid or Aurora as its app client?
if this app is created, do any of you predict/think it would become a True FOSS app?
If so, do you predict/think it would be available on FDroid?
if this app is created and ends up NOT becoming a FOSS app, what privacy concern ideas do you predict/think it would have (I.e. would it just be like every other google play service store app)?
There is so little detail here, it’s hard to say if it exists even as a marketing plan, nevermind something that prototypes of exist in a lab or that can be bought today or even in the future. I wasted way too much time in multiple search engines and could only come up with endless pages of nonsense about the movie(s), and nothing at all about cellphones.
Which makes it hard to guess what features it may or may not have, or may or may not aspire to someday have in the future.
While there are other options besides F-Droid and Aurora Store (or forks of those, or Obtainium, APKPure, APKGetter, APKMirror, etc), you don’t need new hardware to use these.
Since we don’t know if it will be created at all, hard to say what it might be like. I won’t hold my breath waiting for it. Even if it ends up being FOSS (which is far from clear that anyone intends that it would be), that alone is not enough - it is perfectly possible to have a FOSS spyware/adware app. Kinda like it is perfectly possible to have an organic, all-natural yet completely poisonous herbal tea. (Just ask Socrates about hemlock.)
Assuming it is ever created, whether as FOSS or otherwise, what reason is there to think it will be any different from the rest of the stuff in the play store?
I recently stumbled upon an interesting phone model from Germany, the flx1s https://furilabs.com/, which is a modified version of a phone from the well-known company Gigaset that we used very often
What about it? Do you want general discussion about it or? Last i checked it’s just another Linux Phone with Android App compatibility out of the box and while definitely is impressive as far as linux phones go is still far from where it or any linux phone needs to be for realistic day to day use. I mean don’t get me wrong I hope someday Linux Phones can become Viable alternatives and devices like this are definitely showing good progress towards that is being made but this just is not it…
