I tried not to make this post lol and tried to do my own research but I’m ready to admit defeat: What is the best app to store contacts so that they are backed up in the cloud? I found DAVx⁵, OpenContacts, and others but I have no idea which one is best to use. I need one that is focused on privacy and also encrypts cloud storage.
I’m using Tutanota email on GrapheneOS. Thanks!
If you need e2ee cloud synchronization, probably the best solution is EteSync - Secure Data Sync | F-Droid - Free and Open Source Android App Repository but if you don’t do self hosting it is paid, another solution can be DAVx⁵ | F-Droid - Free and Open Source Android App Repository with a nextcloud account (but it is not necessarily e2ee depending on the nextcloud provider).
Personally I don’t really like cloud solutions and I use DecSync CC | F-Droid - Free and Open Source Android App Repository with Syncthing | F-Droid - Free and Open Source Android App Repository to synchronize contacts and calendars with other devices, if instead you just need a backup without the need for synchronization you can try SMS Import / Export | F-Droid - Free and Open Source Android App Repository or SD Contacts | F-Droid - Free and Open Source Android App Repository

@slyoctopod There’s no solution as Tutanota is not using standard email protocols, you are stuck in their silo…
Honestly I didn’t think about the fact that he wanted to backup tutanota contacts, but phone contacts, for this reason I also recommended sms import / export that allows you to make a periodic backup of phone contacts as well as sms
Is there another privacy/e2ee based email provider that synchronizes better with the dialer, etc.?
Exactly what I do (even if DAVx⁵ or Nextcloud, I don’t which of them, currently mess up some of my contacts for instance by “automaticaly filling contacts initials”!).
