Apps not getting uninstalled and recovery mode not starting

My cousin has a non rooted samsung note 10 lite, one ui version 4.1 android version 12. Last security patch ota update date was on June, 2022. One pending ota update is there, but didn’t download and install it because people’s phone started getting bricked after the ota updates later from that date and even if the phone was in warranty the service center would have asked for double the price of the phone to replace the mobo. There are tons of threads about this bricking issue online.

Now this phone works fine. My cousin shifted to another city for studies and told me to insert the sim of his little sister’s number and give the phone to her. He has debloated the phone using this GitHub - leechuanfeng/hyperos-debloat: Xiaomi HyperOS Debloat List Removed google/samsung accounts. Disabled all google and samsung crap that can be disabled. Has aurora and fdroid store installed along with important softwares like brave and mull (thanks @SkewedZeppelin ) Now he had whatsapp installed and bluewhatsapp (the development of this app has been stopped) in this phone. He has moved his accounts to his new phone long ago. Since his sister didn’t need them so I am trying to uninstall them but for some reason the package installer does nothing when I click on uninstall or gives an error

I went to the location of these apps in the Android folder and deleted all the data. Cleared cache and data of these apps but still unable to uninstall them. Then I logged in using the google account and samsung account of my cousin but still unable to install them. Reactivated all the facebook services that were debloated but still unable to uninstall them. Deactivated tracker control all together but still unable to uninstall. No vpn is running in this phone, there is no other work profile or something. Downloaded different uninstallers from fdroid but they were also not able to uninstall them

This is the older version of WA that is installed

Downloaded another apk and updated it and the update was completed

Bluewhatspp versions

I have installed hundreds of other apps, games from fdroid and from the internet, directly using apk and was able to install and uninstall them without any issues. Tried registering a new number on this installed whatsapp, it got registered and worked fine. Last night installed snapchat (it is installed for the first time in this device) using its apk, just for testing purposes, and guess what now not able to uninstall it too

This is the current package installer version

I was able to find only one updated version after this for android 12 but nothing happens after I click on update

We did not want to format the phone as my friend has banking and other apps set up, don’t want to go through the hassle of installing them again plus he will have to set up the samsung account again to install the purchased themes but since I was out of options, tried booting to the recovery mode by pressing the power and volume up button after clicking on restart, wanted to try uninstalling them using the safe mode once, but the phone didn’t start the recovery mode instead gave this message after booting

What do you think is going on?
None of these apps have any device admin persmissions but all of these apps are the same super intrusive messaging and spyware apps.
Why are we not able to boot in the recovery mode?
What do you think might have caused this?
Is there any adb or other method to uninstall these apps?
I enabled the developer options again, but couldn’t find any option there to enable or disable the recovery mode. Please help

Update- I didn’t know that we can enter into safe mode like this without the recover mode too How to start my Galaxy phone or tablet in Safe Mode | Samsung UK Entered in the safe mode able to uninstall all apps besides these three. Getting that package installer keeps stopping like I have posted above.

undo all this first, surely they disabled some important service :frowning:

Oh. All of them you mean? It will be a pain in the a$$ to debloat everything again because it needs to be done one at a time.
Did you notice one more thing, all these are messaging apps only. There is no other messaging app in the phone as such apart from these.

Another question, why wouldn’t the package installer update if that’s the case and is there any adb to some other method to uninstall apps?

if you know what’s at fault then restore only that. Do you know? No? :person_shrugging:

again, who knows what was broken :person_shrugging:

Please share the commands to remove bluewhatsapp and snapchat also? I have removed their folders from the android folder so don’t know what was their package name. I will get back after restarting and checking.

I don’t know their appids, for whatsapp it was com.whatsapp

look in app manager, under app name and app version

Apparently snapchat also showed success after entering this in adb - adb uninstall com.snapchat.android but the remaining disk size has not changed even after adb showed success for whatsapp and snapchat. Snapchat alone was 300mb+ in size. Though the icons of them both have been removed from the menu and from the app drawer. Why do you think is that?

It shows nothing as such in the app manager. Any other way to find it out?

I can see it here: Imgur: The magic of the Internet

how did you take this screenshot?

Got it. I took that screenshot from the app manager app. Now all of these apps show as success and their icons are gone too from the app drawer but the free space has still not increases. Restarting and will report back.
Why do you think this happened in the first place?
About the recovery mode, enabling everything debloated is the only solution?

see above, debloater

but, now you’ve JUST uninstalled the apps… the “package installer” was not fixed, I guess

But why only with these apps? Why didn’t this happen with the rest of them? This is what I am trying to understand.

But why isn’t the free or remaining space in the phone increased if they are really uninstalled?
My curious mind is telling me to install one of these apps again and then try to uninstall them normally, for testing purposes ofcourse. If they don’t get uninstalled then will adb again help?

One more question related to this, say I create a work profile using shelter. Now that will come under user1 in adb afaik. And say some app is not getting uninstalled from the work profile then is there a way to change users in adb and uninstall them in work profile also?

I will try debloating all of them and will get back about the recovery mode issue.

we can hope

not 1 but 1000 iirc

adb uninstall --user 1000 com.whatsapp

Thanks. I will test everything and will get back.

Last question, when we connect a phone to a pc it shows up all the data of the default user for data transfer. Is it possible somehow to transfer data from the work profile (user 1000) using a pc?

Interesting question  I have no idea :person_shrugging:

Via a shell adb. But it may not allow specifically for Samsung and Xiaomi phones. Others older than A14 (few A13 and old) used to allow. Not sure if it will work in current world.

You’re using work profile using which app?
