APK vs App Bundle: Why Is Google Changing Android's App Format?

I came across this link. It’s overwhelming for a non technical person like me, yet it’s important to understand the type of apps that is offered by f-droid and the type that is offered by Google. What are the advantages and disadvantages of either ? Kindly respond in an eli5 style.

That’s fine. I don’t have any problem with APKs. My question is how is it better than bundle ? And why Google insists on bundle as a corporate strategy ?

it has its advantages, eg. smaller downloads

but we can recoup that with split ABI

Of course you know that android phones have limited storage, and an sd card costs an abysmal amount.

Personally, I hate being a prisoner of the corporates. I wish creators to develop their work independently, but for this, their products should reach users. It can’t be one big google or one big apple all the time.
