Any good text editor?

I don’t need all those “inbuilt terminal” and multiple tabs feature, I just need a simple text editor which has syntax highlighting and has search/replace feature.

Any recommendations?

These ones should do:

Few more are there. Replace may not be available to all of them.

I like markor, it does have search as well as some other essential features, nothing excessive imo. Not sure what replace in this context means.

OP wanted a search & replace text functionality, like a CTRL+H in desktop text editors.

Thanks, these are pretty close to what I want, but not perfect.

Markor has search and replace, but syntax highlighting doesn’t work (I tried HTML).

The second one has syntax highlighting, but no replace option (only searching).

The third one has neither syntax highlighting nor replace option.

I guess I will have to fork the one of them myself to add a replace feature

I also enjoy writing. And for writing on a screen, the built-in Text Editor in some File Manager and File Explorer apps is more than enough for me. If the forum moderators approve, I can share the names of the apps I use. They are Android apps that I get, in their “free” versions, from the Aurora Store.

On the other hand, I’ve also been finding excellent Text Editors within E-mail applications… And likewise, if I may…, I could say more, but let it be clear that I’m not trying to cause any trouble for anyone in this forum.

@IsHacker Do you want WSYIWYG editor although markor is the best all rounder.

Sorry, I don’t want to use any proprietary apps, I am an associate member of the FSF and strictly advocate against proprietary software. The “free” apps on play store/Aurora are all made by toxic developers with ads and spyware in them. And they are not free software.

Also I already use Material Files as my file manager (it is the best for root operations), so changing file manager is also not an option.

No, I don’t need web editing features, just a simple offline text editor with basic syntax highlighting and the search/replace feature.

Markor does have syntax highlighting but it didn’t work for HTML, maybe it’s a bug, or maybe the syntax highlighting is only for Markdown files.

Not sure if this will do what you need: Xed-Editor | F-Droid - Free and Open Source Android App Repository

Thanks! This is what I need. Apparently it does have built in terminal and webserver and other bloaty features, but they aren’t installed by default and you can enable them manually. I will mark it as the solution.

Recalling my recommendation.

Markor app app requires Full file access to work not fixable by storage scopes. And asks for Network access.
