Description of Gramophone claims SD Card support. I cannot find SD card in folder lists. I cannot find any setting that declares the music library - it uses the root music folder on device only. (Samsung Galaxy 20 Ultra with SDCard installed; Android 13)

Thank you for your reply. I too have ‘played with permissions’ in Phonograph Plus but have not tried Gramophone again. Phonograph Plus finds the SD card I think, but it isn’t scanning the entire Music folder, only the first and last folder. I have several subfolders under Music, e.g. (AudioBooks, Blues, Classical, General… Z-other) - and each of them has a number of Artist subfolders, and then album subfolders, and finally music files (and cover art). Only the first (AudioBooks) and last (Z-Other) are being indexed. I was wrong, I think, about it only indexing the internal storage, its only indexing the first and last subfolder in the folder tree. This appears to be a COMMON issue among MANY music players. Are you all sharing the same routine library for iterating a tree that has an iteration bug, maybe?
