I recently upgraded from a Samsung Galaxy a30s to a Samsung Galaxy a56.
On my a30s, download speeds are fine, but on the a56, it’s only a few kilobytes per second, making the app nearly unusable.
Something to note is that on mobile data on the a56, the speed is far better, even better than the a30s.
To Reproduce:
Open any F Droid client (or just download from the link on the website)
Try to download an app
Wait 2 minutes for a 35mb download to complete
Expected behavior
The download occurs swiftly, just like on the a30s.
Device: Samsung Galaxy a56
OS: Android 15
Additional notes:
This behavior is observed not just with the F-Droid repo, but with many other ones, such as Izzyondroid.
Both devices use the same WiFi network.
Both devices use the same mirrors for repos.
Izzy repo is not related to F-Droid, if you see bad speeds for both, then the issue is with your Internet connection…
But both devices use the same WiFi network…
(added this in the post now for clarification)
A bad Wi-Fi network…
You understand we can’t be there to test too, works fine for us.
At times your network maybe slow. Or the mirror being used is far from your location which causes this issue. Latency and connection are the major known issues which are due to foreign reasons and not related to f-droid.
Both phones use the exact same mirrors, on the exact same WiFi network, however.
Are there any steps I can take to resolve this issue?
This issue occurs on various WiFi networks though. Using these same WiFi networks on the a30s shows good results, but not on the a56. Is it a phone issue?
Literally the only things affected are F-Droid repos. Everything else works perfectly.
Is there anything I can do, or anyone I can contact regarding this?
Are you in a firewalled country?
Note that F-Droid has multiple mirrors, if you cancel a download and retry, it should switch, maybe the next one will be better.
I do not believe India is considered a firewalled country, so I wouldn’t say so.
I have tried multiple mirrors, including using the same ones on both devices, to no avail however.
Something worth noting is that once in a blue moon, the download speeds on the a56 become OK, before returning to near unusable levels soon after. I just completed an almost 100mb download in a few seconds. Now, literally right after that, speed is awful again.
