About F-Droid 2.0 - permissions, links etc

It’s missing the most important feature:

Showing apps permissions.

Also as suggestion, menu Categories shouldn’t be listed there because ocuppies space and it’s unfolded by default when you click on a application, also dosent bring any utile info.

Menu technical information dosent bring any useful information or at least a information that should help you decide if you install that app or not and should be removed.

Besides permissions, what technical info would you consider before installing?

After permissions I verify menu links, if app has support, if developer it’s active, if bugs are resolved.

After that I verify menu versions, if it’s the first version released I don’t install it and I will wait until 2-3 or more version appears to be sure app it’s safe so more people have time to test and report.

So this it’s like everything I need, I think the rest are not so important and can be moved to the three dots upper right where is update menu.

Developer contact menu can be moved to links.

I’d rather keep the traditional F-Droid style. It’s more informational.

So you’re saying if I install for example a notes app that at permissions has acces to Internet and if I don’t allow from Android will not have acces to Internet?

I don’t think it works like that, at least for me keyboard connects to Internet if I don’t block acces and dosent ask for permission but maybe because it’s an old version because I didnt updated.

You need an Android version that offers that toggle or use a firewall app like Netguard or Rethink

Then we get to the same story that permission menu was kinda useful. F droid it’s not android 15 exclusivity.

Again, the F-Droid version I have is just right. Why “Improve” it, because Material 3 is a mixed bag, it’s more ugly in my opinion.

Should we listen to you or to the users saying it different?

I saw Google’s new Files app, when it used Material 3, and it was more ugly. So I left it at the final version prior to the Material 3 “upgrade”.

There’s a term for this: Enshittification. Making the experience worse for users of the service. Discord is doing it, YouTube for sure is doing it, Facebook is doing it. Now F-Droid wants to join that trend? Material 3 should be banned, simple as that.

One mans enshittification is anothers modern. Please don’t just use a fallacy to make yourself sound more important

Why say that F-Droid wants to make 2.0 worse? Why would F-Droid team want that? To what purpose?

/LE: to me sounds like a reaction to it being different I bet you’ve would have had the same reaction in 2017 when the current designed was released. How can I bet on that? because people did exactly this… “old one was better” “I’m gonna fork” and they did, that’s how Foxy appeared and G-droid and Classic, and out of them Droid-ify and Neostore…

I never had Android till after 2017, so the design at that point was acceptable. Material 3 didn’t need to exist, yet Google forces it anyway, so nobody needs to comply with it, so F-Droid should refrain from using Material 3. Google is just a big bossy company who tries forcing everybody into using it. Making Enshittification of every application the norm, even if Google themselves didn’t make the application. So indirectly, Google is Enshittifying F-Droid due to Material 3 just merely existing when it shouldn’t. I saw various videos about it, and it really kicked off after 2019, when COVID-19 was rampant across the globe, and everybody was social distancing themselves to stay safe.
