What types of apps are you missing from the FOSS ecosystem?

Are there any FOSS apps which are able to bypass the native Android audio processing so that better on-board or external DACs can be used? Something similar to UAPP or Poweramp.

I’ll check it out. It looks like it doesn’t play music directly but could allow other players to access. Thank you.

I would use and download a world map with digital scratch facility to enable me to record where I have been and where I want to go. Helpful if also did regions and/or cities of countries.

OSMAnd, Organic Maps, CoMaps, all have ā€œfavoritesā€

True but does not seem very user friendly.

An ePUB creation app to build ebooks in the ePUB format.

For example, during protest activities or when needing to make emergency calls, without being monitored by SIM/eSIM operators. Promoting the phaseout of SIM/eSIM for call and SMS services.

In the future, SIM/eSIM operators would only be used for mobile data, or be replaced by community open mesh network Wi-Fi

I was going to set up new post about my issue but dropped on this one.
My opinion is that there is no good dialer in F-droid not IzzyOnDroid.
Welefone and Emerald are very basic, in fact: primitive. Amadz is very basic too, again - not configurable to my needs.
Fossify Phone lacks some options, like grouping all calls by number or contact, instead it groups by day first, then by number. They devs are not inclined to follow user reports, not only about this particular app.
I wouldn’t like to use Right Dialer from Goodwy because they insolently copy Fossify code to their apps.
Last but not least: no spam call blocker works with any FOSS phone app. In fact even Google phone stopped working as a spam blocker of unknown number calls.
Do you know any good phone app outside of F-droid/IzzyOnDroid repos?

Here is the developer’s permission to add BravePipe to Fdroid.

I’m looking for a voice-activated app that on any audio input above a certain volume level, the app will play a random mp3. Even better if the app recognizes a trigger word (ex: ā€œAlexaā€)…

The other day I was looking for a: ā€œTurn your old tablet into a photo frameā€ app. Sure I could use Gallery and leave it on slideshow. But it would be nice if I could submit photos from a separate device. Or that the app downloads new pictures from an email address. To avoid spam it would just read from a whitelist.

Simply send via Syncthing.

Well this is for the parents, which needs to be user friendly for them to use. The only viable open source syncing method is bluetooth. It requires them to click accept file on the tablet. That solution is too meh for them. The email solution sounds good because everyone can send photos to them and they don’t have to do nothin.

PhotoPrism looks very good, I was on my way for trying it out but hit a break with System Requirements. I have a RPI3 setup as the server. It sais it requires an RPI4 with 4GB of RAM, the 4GB of RAM for a simple image server sounds a bit excessive. I do have the spare hardware but I do not like support that precedent.

I am trying out ā€œLes Pasā€ which uses NextCloud, it seems to do the job ok. Thanks for letting me know about PhotoPrism thou, I appreciate it.

I am missing a simple room layout planner app, where you can create 2D shapes and move them around on a board.

Edit: To expand a bit on the idea, I think a central feature would be to save/export and load/import.

There are online room planners like Floor Plan Creator , but all hide essential features behind, like saving, behind account requirements or even payment options.

Another essential feature, in my opinion, would be to be able to create your own shapes to represent oddly-shaped furniture. I image a shape-generator that allows you to layer basic shapes like rectangles, circles and triangles, parts of circles and triangles with one corner moved, as well as their cutout counterparts and ā€œbakeā€ them into a single shape at the end.

Korean keyboard. There is currently no FOSS Korean keyboards. Ironically, the first FOSS Japanese keyboard was released 15 days ago.

None of these? Even my keyboard is built reproducibly | F-Droid - Free and Open Source Android App Repository

I doubt it…
