What app to block spam and spoofed calls?

I saw and was going to suggest when I noticed it is spain only.

Just tested it. As usually this time a day I have a spam call.
It displayed a toast that incoming call may be a spam, but didn’t block it :face_exhaling:
It was a company spoof for mobile number.
Just a moment ago it recognised ordinary number as spam and toasted it…

Anyone waiting and testing???
I’m very curious now.

Using SpamBlocker for a long time and works fine.

The only downside is the lost time configuring and adding wilcards.
Anyway, I strongly recommend it.

Was wondering about that. Some kind of updating is going on in YACB.

Advanced settings → Manage database.

There is a Base version and an Effective version. The latter periodically increments.
When I decided to start checking on all the phones a week or so ago the ‘Effective version’ was 3578. Now it is at 3582. Something is being updated regularly, other than that I don’t know what’s what.

@marcdw1289

iirc they were (wrongly) using the database from this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mistergroup.shouldianswer

their gitlab repo converter is just replacing SIA with YACB in them.

perhaps the app is directly connecting to their servers too?

I believe that might be the case. Via PCAPdroid after forcing a database check/update…

Didn’t work for me again after database update. Going to check later with monitoring service enabled.
I got filtering via rate enabled, via blacklist is not satisfactory in my case. I get spam calls from different numbers regularly, just after 9 AM and after 11 AM of my country time.

Are those scam calls so unique (different prefixes, different area codes) that you can’t do any wildcarding?

Anyway, your comment assumes that just because the database may be updated, YACB should be blocking those calls. Not really the way it works.
Said numbers need to be in the database to be blocked. Numbers can’t be in the database unless they’re submitted.

In YACB tap on a number. Dialog pops up with the choice to ADD REVIEW (WEB).
We must do our part.

I rarely submit because I never answer the phone. Uknown number is not reason enough to submit. Quite often scammers used to leave text or voice messages. That made for easy confirmation. Don’t get that much anymore though.

In my country it is very different. Scammers and telemarketers are such a nuisance. Unfortunately, there is no database. Instead I have made a text file of my blocked lists in my repo to keep a list available for someone if need be.
Not categorized, but just a list.

Those are different numbers everyday… Sometimes recognized by city code, sometimes just ordinary cellular numbers… Real pain in the arse.
For example, as stated before, I just had a call as everyday after 9:00 AM, it was automatic message, Google phone recognized it as a spam but didn’t even block it…
Only hope remains they let go one day…
I call them back from time to time multiple times and when someone responds I say nothing or flush the toilet to make them hear it. I asked them politely to remove my number, with no effect I told them very bad words, which I do only when I’m really angry. No effect too.

What country is it, if it’s no mystery…?
I’m in Poland. Scammers are everyday :[
