F-Droid Basic 2.0 Alpha 10 Search is slow [continuation from email thread]

@mmjoshi maybe instead of email, we can continue here?

From your email: I have installed this version and have downloaded many apps from F-Droid. One of the problems I am facing is searching for apps. It takes a long time with the spinner spinning and does not return any results. Is this a bug to be fixed in the next version?

@Licaon_Kter’s response: This is our best and fastest search yet, sad to hear that.

Two things, first, do tell us which device, Android version and language that you use.

Second, try a search, wait for the results, then go to Settings, last option, export a debug log, save it, send it to us here.

I am using it on realme narzo 50 Pro 5G running Android 14 with English as the language. When I search for an app, no results are returned even if I wait for a long long time. I am attaching the log at TheGood.Cloud . The password is F-Droid123

One small caution: that log link and password are public here, so if the log includes installed-app lists, repo URLs, device identifiers, or anything private, I’d remove or rotate it after maintainers have it. For the bug itself, the useful extra detail is probably one exact search term, whether the repo update finished before searching, and whether it also happens after clearing F-Droid Basic’s app cache. That separates a slow search/index issue from stale local data.

Could you try to install the nightly here in parallel and report if search is also slow there: https://gitlab.com/grote/fdroidclient-nightly/-/raw/master/fdroid/repo/org.fdroid.basic.nightly_29682509.apk ?

Ok. Will delete the file now. Is there any other way to share the log?

No change. Do you want me to share the log one more time? With a specific app search term?

Sure, logs might help

Can you also record a clip of this with Nightly?

Clip? How?

Record your screen, maybe your Android has this included, or via some app like ScreenCam | F-Droid - Free and Open Source Android App Repository or FadCam | F-Droid - Free and Open Source Android App Repository

Done! Find the links to the log and the screen capture below. Let me know once you had a look at them. Will delete subsequently.

The password is F-Nightly123

In Alpha 10 is manual update repo? In 1.23.x turn down main screen update repos

this thread is not about that

you can refresh each repo, see titlebar button in each repo page
