Conversations, is it secure, private etc?

Talking about Conversations, see also https://snikket.org/ how to’s

I saw signal on f-droid too

Scroll up and read the thread, you did not see it in the F-Droid Repo

Too lengthy a process and headache to bother anymore. I have Talk/Spreed from NC now, which takes care of most of my needs. Rest tbvh, not bothered.

As I know, Quicksy uses the XMPP protocol too.
With the same protocol I’ve been using since many years blabber without technical problems. It is also in F-Droid repo.
The only inconvenient is, that few people use XMPP based chat apps and I find, it is heavy to convince someone to install XMPP chat apps, because of registering to a XMPP server, and first of all because the most Google-Android users are “lazy”.

Blabber is dead for the last 3 years, please don’t use it, don’t ask others to use it, more info: Daniel Gultsch: "⚠️ 🚨 It’s time to stop using Blabber.im 🚨⚠️ The …" - Mastodon

and Daniel Gultsch: "#Conversations_im and #BlabberIm traditionally ha…" - Mastodon

yes, that’s why you use Conversations or Monal, and your less tech-savvy frens should install Quicksy

I red the notification you are linked. It is serious? I have same doubts because the suggestion to switch to conversation goggle app.

No, I use Blubber. Anyway I would try Quicksy, but I can’t find it on F-Droid.

wat? the second post post here says how to swich to latest Conversations in F-Droid

wat? Quicksy | F-Droid - Free and Open Source Android App Repository

I can open the link to Quicksy app on PC, but I do not find it searching in F-Droid app on the phone. BTW: In F-Droid app settings I have deactivated all restrictions

we’ll yes, Quicksy depends on some other services, so if you ENFORCE antifeatures… it won’t find it, but you’ll see a text under the search bar that tells you something, right?

AntiFeatures:
  NonFreeNet:
en-US: Depends on Twilio or Nexmo servers for authentication SMS
  TetheredNet:
en-US: Tethered to quicksy.im XMPP server.
  Tracking:
en-US: Authentication SMS is sent via Twilio or Nexmo.

anyway, what I mean is this, if you want max freedom use Conversations, if you want max convenience Quicksy can be used.

I strongly advocate for conversations/xmpp - it is old - but pretty perfect - most succesors are unnecessary reinventions of the wheel.

Its only downside are its iOS clients - I tested monal - okay but not great.

The community seems to have settled onto matrix - there i use “Schildi Chat(next)” - its big downside to xmpp is its less efficient and difficult to host. FluffyChat could be available on iOS maybe?!? I only use it for big groups/communities.

SimpleX as kinda a newcomer is the only one in decades to bring something seriously new to the table: less metadata. Oh, and an iOS client I still need to test, potential atleast!?!

SimpleX is less efficient though, so yes, as secure & private messager I hope you’ll use conversations, while keeping simplex installed also, for high security communication channels.

For now for perfectly polished communication to iOS users I sadly can only recommend signal aka molly on f-droid - sadly cause its centralised unlike the other platforms which are decentralized and therefore more robust.

They should all be “secure”.

Tldr:

SimpleX price for high security

XMPP/Conversations price for best daily/default usability

Matrix/Schildi Chat don’t bother if not forced by peer group

Signal/Molly price for iOS integration

there is a cheogram app being developed for iOS
you can get it via test flight

Hi.

I am around the same thinking and what to use…

I download my Signal directly vom Signal site. There is a “Danger zone “ (??!) where you can get.

This version use also the Goxxle libraries
?

Desktop only: Dangerzone: Convert potentially dangerous documents into safe PDFs This one?
Is it relevant in XMPP or secure messaging context?

No. That one.

Just scroll a bit down.

Links here are allowed ?

Yes Guardian repo hosts the Signal apk from the Signal vebsite

Who is guardian repo ?

The app is not stored by the Signal web site ??

And again, this version has also that liberies from Mister Super curious?

https://guardianproject.info/ long time supporters of F-Droid, FLOSS, privacy, security etc

Ok, thanks.

And the other 2 questions ?

It is, as said

Yes, since that’s just Signal as it is from the devs

If you want without them try https://molly.im
