*ANY* word processing or rich text editor or even usable text editor on F-Droid?

Bad faith moderators on these forums are more detrimental than Google blocking f-droid. Users have the right to make requests without them being belittled, deleted and then placed in an over-capacity thread.

What is wrong with you? How is merging similar themed posts being merged seen as detrimental? No one is deleting your stuff, and everything is in open. Please do not accuse without understanding how online forums work. There is no bad faith here. We have been open and have made sure to be approachable as always. If you believe anything is wrong, kindly help in making things better, rather than becoming a bad actor yourself.

I made a post for a valid request, a word processor is lacking in F-Droid. One to format text. I was instructed by @Licaon_Kter to use an odt reader (which is not the same as a ‘writer’) or a note taking app instead and then my post was marked as ‘solved’, which is not the case. Other members on the forum validated my request. My post was then deleted (gutted, where even the posts of other users were removed. These users highlighted limitations with current tools available and are valuable observations) and shoved into an obscure thread. This denotes a pattern of behaviour by a ‘false’ solve, told to use something that does not fit the purpose, and then deleted. Bad pattern of behaviour, Kindly refrain from ‘ad hominems’, by the way.

F-Droid app is a catalogue of applications. It is a platform for various applications, which may or may not be available as FOSS/FLOSS. The thread you had is a request / aim to have amongst several others. We suggest what we all know. This thread is not obscure, nor was your thread. But it fits under the general theme, and it is best to have it here, instead of having one separate thread for every individual ask/app/theme. I get what LK suggested may not fit your need, and hence your thoughts. However, the forum post and merging of threads is very normal. No one is doing anything wrong here.

Please understand the difference between “deleted”, “closed”, “merged” etc, before using negative words.

@vdbhb59 On my original thread, others posted on the shortcomings of @Licaon_Kter premature designation of ‘solved’ and substandard ‘solution’ that does not meet the request criterion. Further, people on the forum indicated what might be possible apps that can be used in the short term until the main request was fulfilled. This is valuable information. Its removal is an act in bad faith.

Gaslighting is poor form. What is seems to be at play is abuse of power to the detriment of the community and valid discussion.

No one is gaslighting or whatever you are believing it to be. But your topic indeed is a common topic. I am just reopening it so that you STOP making unwarranted commentary there. Please note, no one is here to make others happy, but help each other. Do not make it another internet stuff.

Also, merging similar themed topics as I have told earlier as well is to keep the forum clean. We do not use our admin rights to do anything detrimental. I will see how long this thread is active from other users, else will merge it there, removing any unwanted comments.

Again, a simple request: stop making unwarranted comments.

Hi, @MAU , I think you should be nicer and more educated. People here is just trying to be helpful, in a pure common-solidarity fashion. We can ask for help, but not demand nothing (specially if we are not giving anything in return), and we must try our best to make the interaction happy and useful for everybody.

Kind regards and have a nice day.

@riveravaldez Before passing judgement, you may want to familiarize yourself with the grievance. I put in a request for a word processor application that can format text via f-droid installation. (At this point, openoffice app via Google Play is the only such functional application) Someone here said to ‘use a note taking app’ and an ‘open document reader’ and then marked my request is ‘solved’. Subsequently, my post was relegated to an overcrowded thread to be obscured. 1) The original request is valid. 2) The situation is not ‘solved’. 3) The problem is compounded when the request is placed in an overcrowded thread. I had to fight to give this important application the attention it deserves. A WP is fairly standard for computers and F-Droid ought to have one available. The grown-up thing would be for empowered forum members to acknowledge, “We don’t have one, but your request is noted.” Not to have a false solution and bury the request. So @riveravaldez , you need to reexamine your words. Thanks, and have a nice day.

Dear angery cato, I regret to inform you that your thread is going to be buried anyway, F-Droid team can’t magically materialize apps out of thin air, if you know a specific foss project you want included, you can request that, otherwise it’s not a request per se, it’s a question. And as a question in this forum it was answered/solved, that is the best we know of atm is a stupid web app that berely works that you can download from somewhere else, cause it can’t be included yet cause the dev is super pissy about their logo and/or too shy to attend a public meet and/or is still waiting for their web app to load the doc with the notes they had on the issue. You shouldn’t worry that much, nobody is going to forget that ther isn’t a word processor in F-Droid, unless people forget about word processors in general.

In any time of my life I was even close to thinking about word processing on Android. Maybe it’s just I don’t have proper device, but maybe I just don’t need it…yet?

Android is a mobile system and Linux on pc-like devices or laptops gives more opportunities.

Sorry, I can’t remember why I follow this thread, it’s that some kind of an error?

@rafnov You may not cogitate why a Word Processor can be of use on a mobile device, but over a billion Android users have. This is not even getting into the iOS mobile users. Plus the Android variants of Microsoft Word. It is merely a matter of time before F-Droid users start asking for this. Your criterion of, ‘because I cannot comprehend a use case scenario, therefore others cannot also’ is not logical. You are the exception here.

@namark To get an application, first it needs to be acknowledged there is a need. Many write books, invoices, legal documents, and the like on mobile devices. So it is practical. The next, is to ‘ask’. The following step is to source a developer and empower her to port such a useful application to this platform.

The saving grace of this dispute is that hopefully more will review these missives and alert a developer hero.

For real all “hero” devlopers just want that thing to die already and will never touch it with a barge pole, libre office is the only one fighting tooth and nail against it to replace it with open formats in all the granma insitiutions that still rely on that god forsaken mess. People don’t use microsoft office cause that’s what they want, they use it cause they are force fed it by a monopolistic megacorp that has a chokehold on the industry. And this is ancient history that is not in any way specific to either Android or F-Droid. Nobody interested in this comes to F-Droid forum, they’d go strait to libre office and ask them to make their experimental editing tools less experimental, and then mainly complain about how docx doesn’t work and they need docx cause their overlords demand it.
Just look at your own OP, it’s clearly a question, and a really broad one that includes basic text editors, but then you decided to home in on some specific thing (which you can’t even communicate properly, I suppose it’s typesetting for print?) and be super angery about it.

Sorry, www…hat??? :joy:

Quote me or better screenshot me as a proof where I did so. Waiting.

@namark I seem to be going ‘too fast’ for you, let me slow it down. Showing the one billion microsoft word downloads is indicative that users do seem to want such an application. Then there are people like us who look for libre alternatives. If you have ever submitted an invoice or drafted a legal document or even submitted an assignment for school, you will understand the importance of formatting. Please ask a child to explain the importance of formatting to you.

@rafnov It’s okay, go back to sleep.

nah it’s indicative of microsofts monopoly

Markdown is formatting, html is formatting, freaking gemini text is formatting. Now plzzz lookup typesetting, it’s that words I’ve written above that you probably glossed over cause it’s damaging to your rhetoric

@namark You have indicated your lack of comprehension of why anyone would want to use a word processor on Android. Got it. You are not interested in a word processor on Android. Noted. Kindly move on. Go focus on something you would like on the platform rather than trolling. Not everyone wants to submit documents via LaTex, VIM, or your precious gemini. Have a lovely day.

hooooly ignutius forgive me, gemini text brings up ai slop, is gemtext

@namark Ahh, “gemini protocol” gemeni protocol at DuckDuckGo

This is interesting, thanks! It looks useful and worth delving into. Good to have useful knowledge.

Thanks again.

Zoho writer is free for android. Polaris Office might serve. Specifying odf or odt is very limiting. In FOSS for Android there is little. Markdown is easier to implement and therefore much more common.
