My main idea for an idea of weather app, which doesn’t rely on-proprietary Google Play Services or it’s heavy cloud architectures. It should be lightweight utility focusing strictly on microclimate metrics (dew point, visibility and etc.) and local notification triggers.
Proposal: Lightweight Microclimate & Hazard Alert Utility (No GCM / FOSS)
-
The Problem: I find that most F-Droid weather apps are generalized multi-day forecasting suites focused on UI charts and multiple city tabs, while mainstream alternative apps rely entirely on proprietary push services and heavy cloud backends.
-
The Solution: My proposed solution is a dedicated, single-purpose utility focused strictly on local microclimate metrics (dew point, visibility, pressure drops) and localized environmental shifts.
-
Key Architecture:
-
Zero Telemetry / No GCM: No proprietary Google Play Services or cloud architectures. It should Run entirely on local background evaluation.
-
Open Data: it should pull lightweight raw metrics from open meteorological endpoints (such as Open-Meteo or aviation data).
-
Tiered Local Alerts:it should also use localWorkManagerlogic to evaluate thresholds and fire custom audio tiers (Advisory, Warning, Critical) directly on-device.
